No Fun Allowed: Reflect Maps
|
Phys or Ele reflect is just so fkn unfun.
It sucked in 'le olden' times when any random mob could have reflect and it still sucks. Please remove it from the game or cap it's damage to manageable levels. Last bumped on Oct 4, 2019, 3:02:36 PM

"Please remove all challenging parts of the game where I need to pay attention..." |

" Reflect isn't challenging. You either have a build that cares or you don't. |
|
" Reflect has no part in the new clear meta. There's no way to "pay attention". All it does now is to piss off players who want to enjoy rare unid maps from time to time. |
|
" I agree with @Baharoth15 here.... |

reflect at one point in the game was manageable but these days with the damage you need to take out uber elder etc reflect in a map is far too much of a 1 shot mechanic than a downside, I've fought against it in many threads calling for its removal and after reading all of the reasoning people had and inputting my own personal experience here i do think at the bare minimum reflect needs to be updated to the standards of today's POE to be a downside and not a death sentence (on a good build) obviously since there are mitigations available in the skill tree and +max res people SHOULD have to invest in these things.

Mhh.. I'm not that sure about this.
Yes, reflect feels like pain in the ass for some builds, while others just don't care. But on the other hand, there are options to migrate this problem. If you're playing elementalist, take Paragon of Calamity and the topic is done. Ash Frost and Storm also reduces the reflected damage by 20% and near the scion, it's relative easy to pick up for all caster classes. A much bigger problem with reflect is that the meta tends to multi million dps builds. If I remember right, reflect does 12% of the damage done. Elemental res is usually at 75% (cap), so you would take 3% of the damage done. With 1 mio dps, this would mean 30k dps back in your face. GG You say Prison Cell, I hear 'Holiday'.

I like reflect, it punishes the copy-paste-cutter-builds.
Also you don't need a million DPS to kill uber elder, it just takes more time with less damage. |

I like reflect in Grim Dawn and other games. In those games reflect makes you pay more attention and it adds to the level of challenge. Which is good.
In POE reflect means your character dies if your build isn't terrible. Which seems odd. Plus, there is ongoing and significant power creep in POE. Thus, even if GGG reset reflect damage numbers so that reflect once again became a challenge, instead of a death sentence, then power creep would turn reflect into what is these days all over again. I like to be able to run Un-IDd, corrupted maps when possible, which would be substantially less problematic if reflect went away. Two thumbs down on reflect-in-POE from me. Now that prestige classes will finally leave lab in 4.0, will GGG get it right this time or will they find new ways to repeat old mistakes? Well there is an explicit advantage to running unidentified maps, which means the game NEEDS to have some deal-breaker map mods or there's zero risk involved.
Honestly I wish there were a lot more map mods similar to reflect, which made that map literally incompletable for specific builds. Because other than reflect and zero-regen, there really aren't any map mods that actually matter to a remotely well constructed character. |
