WoW Classic is a threat to our community?

It might take a lot of people for some time, but most of them will quickly go back. Only people that actually played and loved old WoW will stay there.
Launch of Lost Ark in next year is way bigger threat.

EXACTLY.

Having played Vanilla WoW back in the day, I don't think most people are going to stay with it. Too many conveniences that they have today which aren't available w/Vanilla (ie. no mounts, slow mounts, ground only even at high levels, no flying, no pet battles, insane amounts of grinding, raids that take a gabillion years to clear with very meager rewards etc etc)

About the only thing Vanilla excelled at vs Today is in PvP.
And that's mostly because WoW's current PvP is broken in about every way.

Now Lost Ark, coming out next year; yeah...that could be a real threat....

WoW + Diablo + Anime = Dammmnnnn!

[Removed by Support]. Path Of Exile FO Life son.
This sentiment was summed up by a member of our design team who recently said "We don't want to take away the feeling of closing your eyes and Exalting an item, scared to see whether you ruined it or not."

YOLO!

What is so hard about showing some respect to the games that made gaming big? To a company that put esports on the map? i don't get it. "[Removed by Support]". Yeah. So edgy, it is beyond me.

Meanwhile, a true giant like cdpr salutes Hearthstone, tips their hats to guerilla games and even mentioned a shiny little game like banner saga.

True gamers around here. smh.
The Sirus fight is a disgrace.

Predictable as last week's weather, this thread.
Q: 'Is this thing a threat to our community?'
A: 'No, because I won't play it because of [reasons, who cares honestly?].'

I mean, I get why you do this. There's virtually logical or intelligent conversation to be had on such a speculative topic, so most of you default to a myopic position of 'I won't play it so no one else will either'. Strangely solipsistic but there you go.

Naturally Shags comes out swinging with the much more scathing but no less useless 'fuck 'em, if they'd rather play WoW over PoE, they're not good enough for this community anyway' approach. Such is the privilege of the designated 'wise old elder of the community' I suppose.

Objectively, then? Two very different player types attracted to two very different games. Obvious answer: no, WoW classic is not a threat to 'our' community -- it'll have a community of its own that won't give three tickled fucks about this one. More nuanced response: it's hard (and pointless) to threaten a community that does a perfectly fine job of self-destructing regularly.

And probably the real answer: support pack sales won't be impacted, business as usual, so /thread.

I was joking. Just joking. All I was doing in that comment was to spark some laughter. Don't take things so serious.

I think the old school WOW people (I'm not one) will play it for awhile, for nostalgia, then GTFO and play whatever.

that's what's going to happen. I've tried going back to some old games before because I would get that nostalgic feeling and it always wears off pretty quick.

Im yet to be convinced that WoW Classic will have any relevant longevity. Pretty sure lots of people will get in and get tired of it fast, maybe realising it was nostalgia driving them, not WoW being a good game today.

It will have longevity until the naxx patch comes out than vanilla wow dies.
I have seen it happen time and time again. The game is amazing still today, i advise you to give it a try.
You have to remember to chase and catch your dreams, because if you don't, your imagination will live in empty spaces, and that's nowhere land.
Part of the community wants the old WoW classic experience with all its quirks like:

- way slower leveling experience (mounts at lvl 40,)
- slower grinding, because less rep granted
- less epics
- longer and more annyoing dungeon experience (because there wwas no Dungeon Finder back then)
- less solo friendly classes than todays retail version

People get what they demanded. And those are likely to stay longer than the bandwagon jumpers, which only heard of Classic because of its recent hype & growing popularity.

Some streamers with past WoW experience like Alk,Quin,Raiz and Mathil will try it for sure.
Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body."

Only usable with Ethanol Flasks
Played vanilla WoW and loved it for it's time.

I think the main reason I won't be going back is it's just not going to be the same. No matter what they do they will not be able to replicate the community from Vanilla. Players are different now.
