WoW Classic is a threat to our community?

Isn’t WoW completely different game? I’ve never played it, probably never will;) but how many PoE players actually played it and want to come back to it? Hard to tell.. If Blight league will b shite ppl will play whatever else and than come back for next league as usual.. I don’t think WoW it’s thread.
"There is only one true god in PoE and that is Greed... "

I don’t need anger management, I need people to stop pissing me off!
IMO it will attract the ex-mmo players who will join the existing rank and file which move MMO to MMO play for a few months then whine about... lack of loot, p2w, content too easy, content too hard, when is patch xyz due, tired of doing dailies, MMO xyz is better than wow classic, MMO xyz is worse than wow classic but does something better... <insert standard MMO gamer whine here as there are literally billions of variations>

Then they will drop it like a hot potato and come back when they realise just how good it is here

How or why do I make this statement? I am an ex-mmo gamer but one of the minority who didnt whine just packed up and left the genre as it is in a very very stagnant state (hence the rehashing of old games and selling as something new and wanted)

it's the same old issue in MMO gaming tbh rose-tinted glasses about how a game was great 10 years ago... then failing to realise it was because mmo genre as new, there was a lot more community spirit, the sense of self-entitlement was 0.000000000000000001% compared to existing scale too :D

Coming to play PoE at the start of 3.7 made me realise I wasted years on the MMO treadmill when I could have been here having fun instead lol
~ If it moves, kill it ~
I'm sure that some folks will try out classic, but for the most part rehashing stuff from 2004 isn't a long term thing, at least for me.

This game is so much more fun and involved than WoW could ever hope to be. I grinded PvP and rep for years there. No interest in dong that again...or more...ever.

For me its just Activision baiting people with nostalgia generated from Blizzards older, good trademarks yet again and so many are happilly biting.

You clearly know nothing about "WoW situation". People were "demanding" WoW classic for years. Years and years of asking Blizzard if they will ever make classic server, years of the same answer: "you think you want it, but you dont". Finally they realized how stupid they were when some classic priv servers were getting just absurd amount of players and some of them were higly populated for years (untill annoucement of official classic server came out)
I agree with everyone siding with POE on this but it is interesting to see peoples takes on the possibility.. It is definitely there i guess and there is definitely some "Ex-mmo" players that will likely atleast check it out.. I wonder if WoW's "Phases" will act as a on off magnet for the population? atleast with those that are interested in the game that is... Would we notice in the current game? Probably not since there isn't alot of mandatory socializing but... the market could be impacted i guess.
Couldn't give two rats behinds about WoW or WoW classic. I play ARPGs, and prefer not to have thousands of skills on skill bars, tyvm. It's like comparing apples to oranges. A lot of people play PoE because it's fast paced and casual, not spend hours preparing for a raid with your guild or some such nonsense. WoW is outdated, and ugly, and WoW classic is just going back to the old days but still outdated, and ugly. Sorry, but nah.

I have a set of friends that get together every league (There is like 10 of us with our own guild and we hang out and play POE for 1.5-2.5m of every league.) We were talking about the new league and one of them mentioned that this player base that POE has gotten recently, will be diminshed by a large margin from the launch of WoW Classic, Especially with the league starting less then 2 weeks after the launch of WoW classic...

What do you guys think? Will this league be alot less active due to WoW classic or is he just crazy and the players will stay?

WoW Classic will be a curiosity that will be the hot-thing for a month or three. Then it will cool off dramatically.

Vanilla WoW was a largely empty, content-sparse thing with a great many baffling design choices and lacking QoL features that have become standard. It wasn't nearly as difficult as people paint it to be as even it's most complicated fights were pretty tame and simplistic by modern eyes (I'd argue WoW's best raids came at the end of BC and throughout Frozen Throne) and most of the "hardship" was really just tedium. As a player that lived through it and raided at the bleeding edge in vanilla.. going back is going to be a rose-colored experience that won't last for most of the people doing it.

It was revolutionary for its time. It took a whole bunch of ideas, mechanics and deigns from various sources and put them all together with a level of polish the MMO community just had not seen at the time. But that time was 13 years ago. It's come and gone. Nostalgia is great but it rarely survives re-examination.
I agree that nostalgia is probably leading all the hype which will be killed quickly by reality.

I played vanilla and loved it back then but oh muh gawd it was a grind. EVERYTHING was. I remember farming satyrs for felcloth for hours with abysmal respawn rates and fighting others for mobs. Back then only one person could tag/loot a mob.

And the fact that there have been blue posts listing all the things people were reporting as bugs that are actually just how things were back then is hilarious. So many people reported features as bugs that they had to publicly say those things were working as intended XD. We're too spoiled for wow classic these days.

Isn't WoW garbage for carebears?
