Again it's not the point.

I don't like meth or drug dealers either, but we can all agree is a shady business, regardless if adults decide to buy them or not.

No, we can't all agree on that.
Just because you think it's wrong doesn't mean it is.

I'm sorry some snowflakes get offended because they got a dupe for their $3 spent and feel the need to have them banned because their feelings got hurt.

If the boxes were $30 then you might have a point.

if we're going to use your logic like some of the strangers here then by no means people that think that tencentGGG a non small indie company throws lootboxes on top of overpriced shit then the other side of the coin is not wrong either.

Who cares if "shit's overpriced"? The game is free. The "overpriced shit" is only fashion pieces. "Bling". If GGG wants to price themselves out of the market, let them.

There's only one problem. They aren't pricing themselves out of the market, because people are buying their "overpriced shit". Hence; it can't be too overpriced.

I will NEVER understand how someone can be so mad about expensive MTX' in a free game. It's not like you need it to enjoy the game, so why spend so many calories hating on it?

They are the same thing. The only thing that makes loot boxes NOT gambling is that you cannot profit from it. Earnings have no real world value. Other than that, they are basically a digital slot machine.

GGG is bound to UK laws?

@OP

Obligatory haven't read the rest of the thread.

I have brought up this point a few times in the past but I'll reiterate:

EA is aggressively targetting a young audience with a random mechanic that costs real money to use. E.G. gambling.

GGG very gently offer the option of a random mechanic (The contents of which can be obtained non randomly given time), to a mature 18+ audience who are legally allowed to gamble anyway.

You aren't just comparing apples to pears, you are comparing apples to screwdrivers. The two situations couldn't be any more different if you tried.

I don't get how EA is "aggressively targeting" a young audience.
Granted I haven't played every EA game that has boxes. Do you have examples?

Now if you want to talk about Microtransactions being toxic, I ask you to look at The Sims franchise. While that's not "gambling", that is still a shitty way to design a game that initially costs you $60+ for the core game.

The way GGG does it is 100% fine. And I really wish people would stop calling it gambling. It's not gambling, at all.

there aren't any, the difference is perspective but they trigger all the same mental responses.

The fact that professional poker players don't experience the same mental connections that somebody on the casino floor playing slots does doesn't mean that poker isn't gambling.

Loot boxes are a pull on the slot machine, the fact that some of us can deal with them responsibly doesn't change that.

The big one is FIFA. Rated for kids from 3+ and it's basically a big slot machine. There was an article about two kids who unknowingly emptied their parents savings account that contained a 2-3 grand pounds, trying to get some famous soccer player. The sad part is that they didn't even manage to get the player they wanted..
