Can we please pause the game when playing alone?
I don't want to get in on this whole debate, but how would that even be realised technically? Diablo 3 really has that? Isn't that one always online as well? How do you pause an online game with a semi-persistent world? The time ingame would still have to progress, right? Otherwise this would be theoretically a way to let regular/map portals never expire. I could open a portal to something valuable like a rare hideout or a hard boss kill and could spam chat (with another char) for hours until I get the absolutely highest offers. This would be restricted to non-party play I guess? What about the hideout, other players can enter there. What about instances with a timer? Incursion, delve, memory fragments? Being able to constantly pause would help in there to get a good overview. Even if the screen would turn blank, you'd just quickly unpause/pause again. So that action itself would probably need a cooldown as well? So many questions.
On a side note, would also probably be abused by hackers to identify certain data points to do something questionable with it. |

+1 this and bumped!
I don't trade, I don't play with friends, I don't cheat or hack the client to break the server, and I don't care about ladder rankings. So I don't care how it effects other players. None of that should stand in the way of improving the game for me. PoE is clearly designed to be a single-player game, like it's spiritual predecessor D2, and that's how it's meant to be played. All this multiplayer BS- parties, chat, and trade- were tacked on as an afterthought, same as with D2, and should be removed, it's ruining everything. If it wasn't for the DRM, this game would be offline. It would have offline hacks, community mods, and it would have a pause feature by default. What I want is a pause that allows me one command- cast a spell/curse, summon a totem, throw a trap, lay a mine, before unpausing. Last edited by TheNightFly#5386 on Apr 24, 2019, 4:24:29 PM

Logout macros are allowed, use them if you have an emergency(shouldn’t be having emergencies that often...)

You can easily pause other multiplayer games
Its not like its PvP game where pausing can be exploited Need more brains, exile?

" wut? this is pve it would be more exploitable against the monsters :D Trust your mind and strengthen your abilities!

" Not really you can log off already or become immune at will so pausing the game has no effect Need more brains, exile?

Instance could be paused server side, it's pretty much common thing.
Now how game's architecture can allow it or how hard it is to implement it is a different question. Like someone from alpha who said the code optimization/hardcoding does not make things easy... Reeeeep. Last edited by Universalis#5776 on Apr 24, 2019, 7:23:25 PM

" you can log off and you have a chance to stay in game for 5 more seconds its impossible to be immune atm so pausing the game would have a big effect Trust your mind and strengthen your abilities!

Agree!
This is what I always hated about the lab. My son would be crying in his crib or door bell rings and I could not pause to attend. Basically I'd lose like 5-10 minutes progress in lab using a portal and have to do it all over. Git R Dun! Last edited by Aim_Deep#3474 on Apr 25, 2019, 1:34:28 AM

Have the game pause one second after the pause button was hit. Problem solved. You could even have a second of the game being unresponsive after the pause if you are still worried. All done through transitions between normal and blurred states.
For fuck's sake, I could understand devs saying it's too costly to implement, but trying to shoot it down because it would cause some (minor) "abuses", without trying to suggest fixes for them? No wonder accusations of white-knighting are being so often thrown around... -_- |
