Can we please pause the game when playing alone?

I take it you're pretty new to ARPGs if this bothers you. No pausing has been a normal thing in a lot of games for a long time.
So has pausing, as anyone not new to ARPGs would surely know. Weird argument.

Well technically this is an mmorpg.

There was no argument, you completely ignored the second post. I stated this was a normal thing. Because it is one.

Of course there was an argument. I don't mean argument in the sense of "angry debate", but rather "reason or evidence put forward in support of a particular position".

The reasoning "you must be new to ARPGs if you're bothered by this" is nonsense. It is not in any way contradictory or inconsistent to both:
a) be bothered by the existence of the lack of a pause feature, and
b) be aware of other similar games that lack pause features.
Not least because being aware of something is not at all the same as liking it.

I posted specifically to dispute what you wrote in the post I quoted; there was no reason for me to add in your second post. Saying one silly thing and then something else afterward doesn't suddenly erase the silliness of the first thing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_of_Exile
"Path of Exile is a free-to-play action role-playing video game developed and published by Grinding Gear Games."

Seems to just be a good old ARPG.
But hey, I am forced to see 3 or 4 people in town while leveling, so it must be an MMO...
No you're trying to take things out of context and argue non existent claims to feel like you're winning. Your previous post clearly states I was trying to say being able to pause in games is abnormal.

There's nothing to win. Quoting the entirety of your post is not taking anything out of context. So much misuse of that phrase these days.

And no, my previous post stated nothing of the sort. What it stated was that pausing is also normal, and that your reasoning was weird. This being the suggestions forum, people suggesting something that's normal in games is not some kind of unsound, illogical thing to do. And the fact that some games do not allow pausing does not imply unfamiliarity with the genre on the part of people suggesting pausing.

I've already died 5 times on my latest char because of RL emergencies that had me go AFK on the spot.

I can see no reason why we could not have this QoL addition.
It's not exploitable, at least not any more that the logout macros, and it would simply be useful.

I'm fairly certain "pause" is when you use a portal to go back to town/hideout.

Try that, works every time for me.
