" that is one dumbass suggestion and its missing the point. take this point : there is one melee skill viable and its projectile based so its actually not even melee. you may ask so what? play range. great, delete half of the current skills exist ingame and go with range. good idea pal. you figured it all out. I still defend the stat stick nerf but only as step 1 in a 2-step balance change. Step 2 was buffing melee all-around to make up for the nerf to specific setups that could use stat sticks. Without them, balancing melee of all kinds with all skills is much easier.
But they never did step 2!!! So now we’re left with melee being garbage. I’m sure they’ll just nerf CoC and MS and call it a day. Or do something pointless and tangential like buff some kind of melee totem interaction nobody wants to use. Or even introduce one new good melee skill while leaving everything else untouched. We're all in this leaky boat together, people.

You can kill Shaper with basic attacks thanks to all the powercreep that was added last year. Just because you can technically play melee in PoE doesn't mean that melee is in a good spot. In every other online game, gross imbalances like melee vs spells/projectiles in PoE would be treated as a massive issue by the community. There would be front page threads every day asking the developers what their plans are. Only in PoE can you see people defend blatantly terrible design because their cousin played fucking Dual Strike once and it "looked okay". Melee right now has no "niche". There's nothing that melee does better than other archetypes. Melee isn't tankier than an Occultist, it doesn't kill bosses faster or safer than Arc/Brands/Ele hit/etc., it doesn't clear fast and it isn't budget friendly. Statsticks, hate them or not, were melee's niche. They were the only reason to pick melee over other builds because they guaranteed you would outscale most other archetypes at the top end. Now they're gone and melee got zero compensation for the removal of their ONE advantage. Melee is in dire need of changes in 3.6 and I hope GGG aren't as delusional as the forumers here about the state of melee. |
