Interesting. Maybe a new hybrid species is born?
Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body."

Only usable with Ethanol Flasks

One melee skill that's viable? And which one is that? And viable for what?

I've seen people do just fine with any melee skill. Mathil even used arguably the worst out of them all on his champion, glacial hammer.

Sounds like you just don't know how to play a melee charachter no offence.

This logic is so disgustingly flawed it makes me want to hang myself on the off-chance that I won't see any more "melee is fine" posts in hell. You can kill Shaper with basic attacks thanks to all the powercreep that was added last year. Just because you can technically play melee in PoE doesn't mean that melee is in a good spot. In every other online game, gross imbalances like melee vs spells/projectiles in PoE would be treated as a massive issue by the community. There would be front page threads every day asking the developers what their plans are. Only in PoE can you see people defend blatantly terrible design because their cousin played fucking Dual Strike once and it "looked okay".

Melee right now has no "niche". There's nothing that melee does better than other archetypes. Melee isn't tankier than an Occultist, it doesn't kill bosses faster or safer than Arc/Brands/Ele hit/etc., it doesn't clear fast and it isn't budget friendly. Statsticks, hate them or not, were melee's niche. They were the only reason to pick melee over other builds because they guaranteed you would outscale most other archetypes at the top end. Now they're gone and melee got zero compensation for the removal of their ONE advantage.

Melee is in dire need of changes in 3.6 and I hope GGG aren't as delusional as the forumers here about the state of melee.

I could not agree more. Really hope melee gets some long overdue love next patch.

Good reply. But it was the same in diablo 2. There was no good reason to play a zealot over a javazon.

How is it in diablo 3 or grim dawn? How did those games deal with this?

Wasn't fortify supposed to be the solution in poe? Maybe that could be made for melee only as it should be?

The problem with melee isn't JUST the lack of power, but that you HAVE to scale it through crit and/or conversion (and of course huge amounts of attack speed) for it to be viable, making every melee build not only feel the same, but gear the same.

Sounds like literally every build in this game that isnt DoT (which cant crit).
If you are playing ANYTHING that can crit and you are not going crit, you are just making inferior version of that build. Thats how PoE currently works.

Yes, its sad. The "you can make so many diffrent builds!" is just illusion.
Does it scale physicial damage? - go crit + ele conversion, otherwise just crit. If its attack stack attack speed as well.
You can make hundreds of "diffrent" builds with same passive tree using same gear (just switch weapon if skill requires it)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: You speak as if I'm new to this game. Like I'm a child, or something. Please stop it. Thanks.

We all know you have to scale crit/conversion/both to make your build as powerful as it can get. And that's fine. But the gap is too big/the opportunity cost is too low at the moment. You talk like "this is the way it is, and there's nothing we can do to change it". Newsflash: There's TONS of things they can do.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
Well, then your Dad should have a good Teacher in you for Path of Exile my guess is.

Bad joke?? Why bring up Zeal when the best melee build in the game is Smite? The only equally safe build in chaos tristram was a completely insanely maxed-out necromancer. Sorceresses and Javazons are better at getting through the story and ultimately at hell baal runs, but Smite in D2 was an in-your-face melee skill that outshined absolutely everything else for bossing.

It actually occupied a very similar "unkillable and great single-target" niche as molten strike does now... except molten strike is a fucking projectile skill, not "in your face" melee.
