Dad wanted to play poe again ''I wanna be a badass melee user''
" Because its true, we can do shit. GGG can, but will they? Most likely not. |

" The only thing we can do, is to influence and speak our minds. Settling down on: "We can't do shit. This is how it is. Let's not discuss it" isn't helping anyone. But if your role on the forums, is to "GGG is in charge. Let's not speak out minds", then fine. I guess every forum "need" this... Stereotype. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

People were talking how melee is inferior to other builds for years. YEARS. Have you seen GGG buffing melee? (Shaper statsticks doesnt count, they buffed some spells even more than melee)

"Hey I_NO if your still wanting a build for your old man, i've got this. Hank the Tank: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2087746 My go to melee build for this league. |

" Smite? No one used that except in pvp for some stunlock builds when i played d2 before patch 1.10. Chaos tristram? Unknown to me as well. Was that when diablo walked the earth? That didn't happen very often and was related to sojs sold to mechants. I think we are from different timelines of d2. It's a trip down memory lane for me. Sounds like someone made smite viable for pvm in d2 after i quit. How curious. I remember it was crap, unable to leech life so you had to use the lifetap gloves or curse and couldn't trigger deadly strike. You didn't answer any of my questions though but then again i wasn't quoting you. Last edited by kompaniet#2874 on Feb 23, 2019, 2:22:55 PM

Stuff dies way too easy in this game for people to say melee sucks. Yes, it might not clear a map as fast a tier 1 build, but who cares? If you clear a map 30 seconds slower, its not that big of a deal. And thats what we are really talking here most of the time. We are talking 30s to 1 minute differences that end up being fairly moot depending on how much time you spend sitting in your hideout, chatting with your friends, trading, etc. Of course if you are some power gamer who can only play the top tier 1 build and grind maps nonstop one after the other for 12 hours a day, I can see why it matters. But a weekend warrior like your dad, or a new player, or someone who just wants to play a specific skill, its not gonna hurt in the slightest.
Until they actually make something take a beating, it really doesnt matter on general mapping. Most of the times the travel skills themselves nearly 1 shot all the mobs, and you are left using your abilities to do the last 15-20%. At that piont it doenst matter what you are hitting them with since Leap Slam or whatever nearly 1 shot the entire pack anyways. Ive played all kinds of trash, while my friend only plays tier 1 builds. I'm never that much slower than he is clearing a map. Most of the time its some trash melee build, too. It gets a bit overblown and people really dont realize it because they just play alone and think man if I just had that tier 1 build but in reality the build they are playing may be less than a minute slower at best. Luckily, I always play with a friend who will run the top builds, so I understand how little the gap really is. The only time that stuff matters is if there is some kind of really tough mechanic, or way to really increase difficulty. Like back in Legacy with double breach, double beyond, max sextant maps, etc. Those kinds of things really culled a ton of builds. But that kind of difficulty just isn't reached by most leagues nowadays. |
