I mean . . . he's not wrong.

I_NO, just make him one that he will like to play, even if you wouldn't. I'm guessing I am closer to to your dad's age than you are. give him a cleave build with enough umph to get to red maps. That's all he will need and he will enjoy it.

Your biases and experience are getting in the way. Put those aside and and forget metas.

My dad plays D3 and was wayyyyy too overwhelmed when I showed him PoE. But he just wants something easy and not too grindy, and I don't blame him.

In his defense, he's a huge fan of Dark Souls and Bloodborne (and not bad at them either). But complex mechanics and theorycrafting builds - eh, it's not for everyone.

But he's the reason I was ever into D1 and D2, after all.
We're all in this leaky boat together, people.

Oh, you're...young!

But I agree, you kind of got the cool dad (although were I a dad I don't think I'd expose my 8 year old to the level of gore in D1, nevermind PoE). I was 18 when D1 came out and was fighting *furiously* about it with my parents about 6 months later. Admittedly my average D1 character level was higher than most of my university exam scores, so they probably had a point.

I've given my age on the forums before, yes, I'm not an old man like you and shags :) Diablo 1 was over two years old when I started playing it (I'm turning 28 this year), so it was fresh on my mind when D2 came out. I was still getting my master's at MIT when I started PoE in 2014. Luckily, I had finished classes for the degree already and was only lazily finishing a very dumb and boring thesis at the time, so my grades didn't suffer from my new interest in the game (though to be honest, the graduate classes there are way easier to get As in than the undergrad classes)....

For reference, my mom was horrified by my dad showing me D1. But he knew I could handle it!

Not only is MS Jugg like playing completely different game compared to other Melee skills, trying to buy MS +2 helm enchant, non-unique, non-mirrored under 12ex is like trading in completely different game. :)

Not everyone has the same definition of "viable" as you, so you might want to hold that ironic laugh to yourself.

For many players, "viable" means "viable to compete with the best skills of other archetypes". If you can name a lot of melee skills that can compete with the best spells/traps/mines/totems in this game the OK. You win.

And then we have to define "compete". Safety? Speed? Damage?
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Yeah, that can be a problem. But if she could, it would be an indicator of growing maturity.

Which means many players think there are like 3 or 4 skills in this game? Damn, how they not get bored of this game playing same thing every time?
(there is no viable skill in this game other than Arc and BV if you compare it like that)

Molten Strike is still better than both of those on the absolute top-end for bossing though.
