Crossbows

I too have been wanting more ranged alternatives. In a way, it should be possible to throw all weapons. The problem is how you regain the weapon you threw away. But otherwise, stackable throwing knives/axes/spears/javelins/stones/skill gems would be great
Yeah, crossbows could be a great idea, heavy damage, larger distance, but low attack speed.. I like playin ranged chars, but usually they havn't got enough ways to develop.. Hope its gonna change in PoE. ;P

There are some 'Polearm' Two Handed Axes, but as for the other weapon options, we've probably filled most of our weapon needs. Potentially something for the future of the game?



I believe it's low priority, because Crossbows, Javelins and similar thrown items would require a whole new set of animations and models. But this post is from August 2011, so I'd like to know if this statement still stands as it is, or if GGG is already planning to implement new ranged weapons.

I love ranged combat, and I'd really like to use more stuff than just bows. After all, this game is about variety, and this is the only weakness I found so far.

You guys do realize that in the "real world", bows work with strengh as well? Of course it doesn't work if you're really clumsy, but the force that propells the arrow forward comes from your muscles, so it's strengh ;)
I think more projectile options for the Dex classes is greatly desired and needed. I would love to make a crossbow class and max out knockbacks!

If I would implement crossbows (and I really would!) they should have a very low attack speed (2 seconds or more per shot), a lower range than bows but much higher damage and a chance to penetrate armour. And finally: The Iron Grip passive would not work on these.

But please, don't make these machine gun crossbows as one encounters in so many games. These just don't exist (not even repeating crossbows can shoot so fast).

Javelins / Throwing knives etc.: I think, I would not implement these as actual weapon. But I definitely would like these as skill gems (like Ethereal Knives).
Javelins strength based and throwing knives dexterity based.
Archers =/= amazons.

Absolutely! Of course, I don't want to run around tossing health potions at my enemies. It would be cool a short while, but the entertainment value would wear off easily. But what about other potions? We could have throwable potions like bottles of poison, molotov cocktails, gas bottles and so on.

The STR-issue can easily be solved by letting the throwing-skill convert your STR to DEX just for that skill.
