please end mystery boxes (loot boxes, glorified gambling)

i get it, youre a f2p game and you have to make your money some how. thats why you guys have insanely priced cosmetics and supporter packs already (which i have bought) but please, PLEASE, dont be one of those companies that is ok with this TERRIBLE form of gambling. you DONT need to have them, at all, and being f2p isnt an excuse. NO ONE wants loot boxes. its the purest forum of a money grab. GGG is better than this. please reconsider.

You don't need to buy mystery boxes, it's all cosmetic so ...

Because there are mystery boxes, we do sometimes get free mtx.... I would not like that to change personally.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

"you dont have to buy them"

this is not a legitimate argument what so ever and youre missing the point.

Yes it is, because they offer purely cosmetic things, it's fine
Nobody needs any of the things inside those boxes to play the game.

If you don't want to buy loot boxes, then don't. If you got a problem with gambling they can lock the option to buy them.

You really don't, which is why it's fine.

I've previously been publicly and privately verbal against mystery boxes and my stance hasn't changed over time. However...

Fruz has a point. I don't have to buy them, you don't have to buy them and as far as loot boxes go, they are as fair as it gets. This isn't some underhanded F2P gacha system with odds within the region of 0.001% to get anything even remotely useful and most rewarding being valued at FAR below the cost of a box.

This a GGG product that gives you AT LEAST your points value per box, with a set, clearly stated chance for MUCH higher rewards. Essentially, they are a random sale. Heavy discounts at the cost of getting random things. Is that okay? Well, that's up to you to decide, isn't it?

What I will say in defense of those against these boxes though is that it does go hand in hand with a very impactful issue found in almost every gambling addict on record, the sunk cost fallacy.

Those of you, like me, who can't stop buying boxes until we get that full set, or that one item we're after, because we've already spent so much so far and it would be for "nothing" if we quit before we get what we want. THAT is dangerous, but it isn't the fault of the boxes, really. It's up to us to control ourselves, or not and suck it up when we get burned.

In the end, if I can control myself, I'm actually grateful for these boxes. I've done the math and if you stop at 20 to 30 boxes, you will on average get the items you receive at a 66% discount compared to their store price later. That's a pretty good deal, BUT, it won't be a full set and you'll have to wait 4 months to finish it. Can you do it?

To summerise, I still wish these boxes weren't there and they simply released the MTX they contain onto the store immediately at full price instead. The boxes are potentially harmful to some members of the community, but also offer an opportunity to get some random items at greatly discounted price. The knife cuts on both ends. Which side are you on?
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more.

'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league.
Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave.

Yes, but people suffering from it won't be stopped by it. If you have a problem, and you want to solve it, they need to recognize it first. They can PM them and ask them to just block that option. It sounds horrible to obtain money from other peoples problems but after all, it's a business not charity.

I did not think about mentioning that, but they do seem like good deals indeed and I think that they are.

I did not know that it was a thing, but as tylo19 said, if GGG is fine with blocking the options for those who reckognized that they have a problem with the boxes, then there is really not much more to say imho.
