So GGG, how's that improved player retention coming along?

Is this the modern version of "POE is Dying" threads? Even steam charts. All we need now is a straw poll with stupidly slanted possible responses and it will be 2014 again.
Thanks for all the fish!

Jesus, don't give this guy any ideas..!

The only retention I see in this thread is the anal retention suzie's showing in overanalysing cherry-picked steam charts.

The month of a league on the platform the majority of PoE players use isn't cherry picked. But he's pretty wrong about retention being bad

It is ok. He is not really reading responses from what I can tell.

imho, the map grinding is what keeps newbies quitting. If you don't have a great mapping character, the boredom is pretty harsh. There are always better games you can fill your time, instead of doing the same maps over and over again.

this. my char is pretty good for map clearing but i'm already getting bored of the mapping over and over again. i'd rather just delve
If GGG had wanted to improved player retention, what they've done has worked. But what they did was attract fewer people to begin with.

I highly doubt that it was intentional.

Oh, I read them. I just don't respond to the ones that are clearly in denial about the facts.

it's cherry picked in that it fails to take into account that at a larger remove this is the cycle of dips and spikes the devs themselves chose when they made PoE a seasonal/league-based game years ago.

And you seem to fail to take into account that it was GGG's own self-stated goal to improve player retention with Delve. That tells us two things:

1. They do in fact want to smooth out the spikiness of the player curve
2. They failed to meet their own goal with Delve. Look what I found:

That's Harbinger. It had 98k people on launch day. What do you reckon the week 3 spike is on that graph? 75k? 80k? It's a lot more than 66k, that's for sure.

Harbinger had better retention than Delve is having.

The other games used for comparison, such as Warframe, are much more about ongoing events.

Delve is an ongoing event. That's the whole point. GGG added "infinite content" so that even after you have beaten all the bosses, collected all the OP gear, and amassed all the currency in the world, you still have something to push for. That's how they expected to retain players.

Didn't work out for some reason, though. I kinda wanted to have a constructive discussion about what that reason might be, but I guess people are more interested in cupping their ears and going "LALALALA I DON'T LIKE HEARING THESE FACTS!".

#Sad!

Wow, congrats on reaching 16 achievements on day one. What's your secret?

There you go. Fixed that for you.
