So GGG, how's that improved player retention coming along?

" PoE's player curve looks like Dick Cheney's heart monitor, and is just about as healthy, but people still defend it. The fact of the matter is that GGG has backed themselves into a corner, they need to invent new shiny keys to jangle every three months or their playerbase will evaporate. And hell, it's not even actually three months anymore, these things are starting to get shorter. This is not something that will be sustainable forever. This is a buff™

Well the game is easy for veterans and difficult for new players.
The journey from becoming a new player to an experienced one is something a lot of players don't want to even bother tackling. Source: I've personally introduced 15 people to this game and only 1 person stuck with it enough to even make it to T10 maps. The second closest stopped at Tier 2 maps. All of them had one build. On the bright side, the one person I did "successfully" introduce is rerolling and seems to really enjoy what this game has to offer. Part of the issue of retention is understanding a what point players quit the game in the PoE character life cycle. A complex game with little or no hand-holding... yeah who would be surprised by those numbers? Last edited by Prizy#1622 on Sep 25, 2018, 2:40:12 PM

imho, the map grinding is what keeps newbies quitting. If you don't have a great mapping character, the boredom is pretty harsh. There are always better games you can fill your time, instead of doing the same maps over and over again.

Good God, what a senseless troll. And you are really belaboring the point.
Not long ago I actually switched over to the Steam client finally, after all these years. Not a good idea. I was 100 hours on September 14. By September 24 I was at 150. I played friggin' 5 hours a day. And over the last 4 days I had my kid so my playtime was way down. WHAT!? I preferred to remain in ignorance! What have I done! I signed back into Everquest through Steam a decade after quitting originally and pumped serious hours into soloing through that game again, I dread what kind of accumulation I am going to put into PoE. |

" Exactly that, people keep talking sh*t abount leagues, and most people leave just becuase of how hard the game can get, in any past, present, or future league. |

While subjectively, Delve did jack shit retention-wise for me, it's kinda hard to judge numbers, considering the WoW expansion was released a month ago.
Plus it's start of the autumn/studies for bunch of people. All in all, we have 20k people less at the peak in comparison to Incursion because of that, most likely. |

" As much as I don't like Delve, das true! Uploaded an awesome Exsanguinate Freeze Explosion build on the forums - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3508506

What kind of retention are we talking about?
Do we talk about players playing non-stop till the league ends or do we talk about players returning every league? The relative drop to the initial peak is lower than in Incusion. So the former type of player did increase by numbers. If comparing the initial peak with that of Incursion, plenty players didn't return this league. So, is this good or bad? I can't tell, since I have no idea, what GGG is looking for... Let's explore new playstyles - Play it your own way, not just like the others.
