Path of Exile - ProjectPT Was Right Expansion

There's less whiteknighting than ever before. Over the last year, I get upvoted on reddit every time I express some concern over the game. Two years ago, if you said anything bad about GGG, you'd get -500 rating in 3 seconds. Now you get +50. This forum is pointing out issues in the game every single day, as well.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am not sure if we can take Reddit upvotes as a metric to whiteknighting. There can and are things that are good but what is bothersome is when you see the same names everywhere protecting everything. You can browse through their post history and see that they comment on every topic, telling others how the game is perfect and the issue at hand is not an issue even when there are a lot of unsatisfied players with concrete proof of the system being flawed.

Full disclosure, only skimmed it, but I will say this:

RNG

Why RNG exists in this game is to create an illusion of progress and achievement. You don't open up a map and think to yourself - WOW! I'm going to have fun killing those monsters! Neither will you have the possibility of feeling challenged with the recent nerfs, forcing you to play maps far below your level. So your only option left is getting some sweet drops. The problem with that is that now the only element that provides any sort of satisfaction is too rare to feel rewarding and is replaced with frustration. That is why you feel like a hamster running in a wheel. You can't do anything about it except mindlessly and slowly grind yourself out of it.

The logic behind these nerfs were to slow players down but the player psychology aspect of that was forgotten. It could have been avoided by just making monsters stronger - not limiting players options and the possibility of speeding up the process by providing optional challenges that also give a reward.
Even trading doesn't save you because while you can earn a lot of money through trading and flipping, you still can't run maps with all the tools available if you don't meet specific Atlas completion( for sextants and map drops) and don't really go full in or you end up in a deficit. You can start playing the maps properly at 100+ Atlas completion which just creates another tick that you have to fill before "playing the game".

> 15h to get to level 65 and maps - no good drops nor is it rewarding
> 2/3h to finish lab and quests - no good drops nor is it rewarding
> 30h+ to get Atlas to 100+ - just running through maps that don't excite you
(> 6h to run Poorjoys to get to 90)

And then you can start playing the game and take on maps / combos that could be challenging.

This, since Saturday i suddenly for better RNG and the game instantly became more fun..

Without the feeling of proper progressing every game get's boring really quick.

Yes, as mentioned before, they have buffed yellow monster drops massively and possibly some other ninja buffs.

Ow sorry, i missed that, but i definitely noticed the difference in RNG and they down tuned it again also, because 1 map i had 7 map drops of the same or higher tier (that is a bit of overkill, but something in between would nice :D)

What does project pt have to do with poe anymore?? NOTHING except a legacy of negativity and toxic behavior.
For years i searched for deep truths. A thousand revelations. At the very edge...the ability to think itself dissolves away.Thinking in human language is the problem. Any separation from 'the whole truth' is incomplete. My incomplete concepts may add to your 'whole truth', accept it or think about it

And being right a lot more than he was wrong.

It's the only popular meme regarding not accepting GGGs design decisions that people can understand. I don't support all of his concepts and haven't digged that much into him but we still support the same idea of game being challenging, not just playing a slot machine cookie clicker.

Very true. The dude never met a game he liked; maybe time to design your own or find something else to do if you can't make games.

I will say one positive thing about him: he quit playing and moved on to other stuff (which he complains about but that is not my problem or anyone else's). Which proves he's smarter than many others.
Censored.
I agree with everything the op says..

and it sucks cause I have nothing to add :D Because everything I'd want to say on the topic, has already been said.

Really hope they give us something good with 3.3 or this game be dead soon.

Same feeling.
E = mc^(OMG)/wtf
Game sucks, time to leave.
You know, it pains me when people point to league mechanics as to why POE is failing. I've played standard for years and for the most part, league mechanics are a bit of a fantasy (GGG often does not incorporate them, and when they do, they're far far more rare to the point they might as well not exist outside of Zana mods -- which made Legacy suck REALLY HARD for standard players). So when people complain about not getting enough loot, or getting too much loot, I'm just like "Well fuck, I play standard." So on this point alone I disagree with the entire premise of the OP's post. Bestiary might be a shitstorm, but the core game still stands fast. If you don't like the core game, then theres nothing I can do to help you because with each passing league it will get worse for me in standard, and more power creep will come to you in leagues, and thats assuming you enjoy the mechanic.

As far as the rest of the OP's post -- GGG is a business, it is expected that they make risky decisions. Most league concepts I liked didn't get incorporated into the core game, specifically because it would oversaturate the new league (Perandus -- more strongboxes hurray, legacy -- pick and choose whats in play, fucking awesome, common essences -- I like to craft, common breaches -- I have yet to get enough splinters to enter a single breachlord map). And what do I get instead? Nerfs to xp for people over level 95 (across all leagues) to keep the race to 100 a little bit longer when they throw in stuff like Breach and Abyss as xp and loot magnets. I didn't play very much at all during 3.1 because of it. I might play a little longer in 3.2 here and there.

Bottom line, I still enjoy path of exile from time to time. My take on this topic: "And this too shall pass." We can only hope when it does, that it gets better. If not, you can always quit for real (raging on forums while fun just tells me you'll be back, the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference).
