Please remove the mystery boxes because it's Hazard Gaming
" So when you see someone ruin himself playing poker you just say "let's him having fun". No man, this IS a real issue, already took in consideration by many Countries. OP point is, if NZ GOVERNMENT says it is hazard game (like some Countries already did) we won't see loot boxes on PoE anymore. |

I don't get the hazard gaming comments. These are not pay to win loot boxes. You cannot get anything from a loot box that gives you a single advantage in the game. The drive to open these loot boxes is to get badass looking cosmetic skins while at the same time supporting the company that makes this game.
If you don't care about looking cool, you won't buy these loot boxes. If you don't want to risk getting duplicates, then either wait to get them when they come out later, or spend your points on the plethora of non loot box existing MTX in the shop at the moment. The only people that might have an issue with this are no kids, or dudes like myself with a bunch of expendable income, it's people that have a genuine gambling addiction. Considering this game is entirely based on RNG, and you're gambling your time trying to get phat lewts, they really should stay the hell away from any games like this regardless of whether or not they have loot boxes. 4 categories: 1- those who have addiction issues: shouldn't be playing this anyway 2- those who hate the idea of loot boxes: don't buy them 3- those that make a bad decision and spend more than they should on loot boxes: grow up, take responsibility, and don't repeat your mistake 4- those that love loot boxes: continue buying loot boxes |

I spend roughly $1000 dollars US per league. Yes I’ve admitted on the forums I’m an MTX junkie (in a fun way). I purchase MTX’s for my son on his account too. Just not as much, maybe $150.
However. It’s my choice. It’s my chosen vice. I spend money put aside for gaming specifically, and going to see movies, and lastly an IOS game I play, called Castle Clash (not CoC). This is all factored into a budget that allows me to continue my way of life. At first when starting this game I really wanted to get the older Supporter Packs, mainly for the pets. However I realised that the quality of MTX’s are better now than the older ones (except some like the Aramanthine Gargoyle). This means I have resigned myself to simply buying 2-3 Top tier Supporter Packs, and 2 of each league pack. Now I have TONS of duplicates, however I do not regret it. I got my T-shirts, which are cool, and one day I will get my Atlas Map. The same goes for the Mystery Boxes. The point of this is that you go into Any game with open eyes and solid control. This game is Free! You get a few mtx’s, free!, you can decorate your hideout free! For the cost of 6 points you can simply get a cosmetic look with purchasing legendaries just for their looks and build up a character that way. In the end it’s all about choice in the best arpg ever, which need I mention again is totally free. No one is pushing you except yourself, and how you look does not in anyway affect your gameplay, nor that of others. Essentially it gets down to, “I like that and want it now, but if I have some control and use my choice, I can buy it in 4 months without the “gamble” (as you call it)”.
Spoiler
A side note about that “gamble”, for every MTX I have gotten out of Mystery boxes I have 100% used all the Armor and Pets, and 80% used the rest.
You will always have more characters and there is nothing more annoying than ripping an MTX off one character to use it on another. That’s why being able to purchase the whole lot individually later on is great, to fill in gaps. Same goes for pets. And if you really have a ton of excess pets, let’s them roam your hideout! Or latch them to a point in your hideout. I have 2 Harbinger tigers placed on top of two arcane pillars in my lair and they just sit there. Looks awesome. So for me I’ve nearly always (90%) found a use for excess Mystery Box stuff you just need to build up a stable of characters, or be creative in your hideout. Dyntheos, PRO CHOICE! All the way. *** Dedicated MTX Collector ***

" Hazard gaming topic =/= pay to win topic. It is a Whole different discussion. |

" Thumbs-up from a fellow ever-crack player and collector of electronic crap few people pay attention to in video games. An avid explorer as well, back in the day. " I salute you for the former, can sympathize with the latter. " /win :) " This is most worthy of continued scrutiny. Video game developers can not afford bad press anymore. More than any other time, more than the Molyneux outrage, more than continued EA lynchings, more than Ubisoft World Dominion, more than "It's a big galaxy full of nothing," and even more than "Steam stole my Cloudsong",devs and publishers are coming under "Legal Scrutiny" by powers that "have real Army tanks that shoot really big explody things" and that will, fueled by the outcry of real-world parents who's real-world credit cards get hit with real-world payments, act with legitimate legal authority enforced with real-world Army tanks if necessary... Any developer that has an online marketplace that sells players in-game items must take note of recent developments and react accordingly, hopefully proactively, to prevent themselves from coming under the watchful gaze of their respective governments. You are intimately familiar with how legislation can effect the "electronic world." You have to consider your real-world experiences in having to ensure that a product or function complies with regulations and legal obligations as well as concerns of legal liability. GGG is a provider of entertainment to a wide audience, but an audience that not only consists of legal, consenting, adults, but one that is also heavily populated by minors. While the majority of players of these sorts of games are not children, the disaster stories written in newspaper headlines generally feature outrage focused on predatory developers taking advantage of children... Whenever something like that happens, a response is generated and it's usually one involving powerful things, like laws, like police, like outraged parents screaming for their leaders to "do something." It ain't playtime, anymore. It's serious business.. A smart business makes smart decisions designed to preserve itself so that it may continue operations. All that being said and, coming from the perspective of a prior business owner who owned a manufacturing business and someone who mistakenly thought going to college to earn a degree in psychology was a "good idea," (Fascinating, no doubt, but difficult to put to use in order to pay bills with...), I have to say that any notion of any sort of "Loot Box" that yields a "Random" reward in exchange for "Real World Money" is... a bad idea. Not in this current climate, not in this current medium, is such a product a good idea for any game developer. It's simply bad for business and will eventually attract unnecessary and unwanted attention that threatens what could otherwise be a profitable enterprise. The "gains" that could be had by such a product, ethically presented or not, can not be great enough to justify the hazards necessary. " It's by design, of course, as you know. Though, because the RNG is so truly ridiculous, the effect is actually less than GGG has intended. <Psych stuffs incoming> In order to encourage a player to keep clicking, there has to be a reward. That's simple, basic, stuffs that the internet gets all googly-eyed over. GGG has structured that award to be presented, to a certain extent, within their RNG system of affixes, but it's not strongly weighted enough to be as effective as it could be. I see a "Rare." I ID it. It has some "cool stuff" that makes me excited to get a rare item drop. But, then there's an affix that is stupid or it rolls so low on one affix that the item is ruined and undesirable. Eventually, this happens so frequently that most rare items are ignored and their intended impact is wasted. The player starts searching for only certain types of rare items. Eventually, they encounter severe enough random foolishness that even finding these items, before they are identified, no longer produces the desired excitement. GGG has attempted to counter this problem by using flood mechanics. MOAR RARES! YAY! Aaaand... no, that's the wrong way, don't go there. Oh well, never mind.. It can't really be fixed now. Thankfully, Uniques still present good opportunities for excitement and reward. Good currency drops also present such opportunities. And, with the continued addition of new items, tweaks to the Passive tree, new real-world things for people to buy and enjoy, they won't have too much of a problem continuing to exploit simple psychology, just like any good game developer. However, a word of caution: Increasing "quantity", alone, and "rarity", alone, without other changes will never, themselves, do anything to increase the appeal of the "first click" on a rare item. It's just, right now, on the "crux" of being annoying. (Yes, there are other operators there, for all to see, like weighing inventory space, portals, etc, that come into play to restrict options and increase drama, yada yada yada) " Not so rambling at all. I think any dev with this business model can gain substantial rewards by demonstrating their ethical dedication to their fanbase. Providing little "freebies" here and there, free things that only serve to enhance their business model by further endearing them to their playerbase, is what is called for. I'm not shouting for "give me free stuffs" since I don't really care. If I want something, I'll buy it. BUT, what I do care about is a game that, in a few weeks, I've really come to enjoy. I want to see good things from GGG other than their name on my real-world account transactions... I've also suggested something similar to your suggestion. To wind up the thread, I'll restated it as well as add something new: 1) Players who finish the storyline in Standard or League or Solo-Self-Found, should be awarded one customized Stash tab. It should be customized for the activity for which it was rewarded, to give the player further feeling of achievement and recognition. ie: Only one of each Standard and SSF stash tabs could ever be awarded and only one Tab could be awarded for each League in which the player completed the main story. The impact on real-world exchanges would be minimal, considering that one normal sized stash tab, in this game, isn't much of anything, practically speaking, and it might take a player a whole year to approach the number of tabs available in a basic 6-tab purchase. A year of time that they'd probably end up buying other things, anyway. 2) A Free Something, every once-in-awhile, limited-edition whatsits. It doesn't matter what it is, just so long as it's given in "Player Appreciation" by GGG and involves them logging in and doing something in game, like finishing a special multi-part quest that involves a little bit of time. There, done, participation encouraged. 3) Remove the Paid Loot Box. Period. It's a dumb idea to keep it around in this current climate. It's blood in the water for legal and legislative sharks and parents not only looking to protect their kids, but to protect their wallets. If you absolutely must keep it around, because some manager is suicidal and thinks it's a great idea, then guarantee a range of items that can be obtained from it, list them, and absolutely, unequivocally, guarantee that the item, itself, is truly selected at random. Provide a legal statement declaring this to be true, given technical barriers for true "randomness." 3b) The pile of dead frozen bodies I got in the one I got was... not inspiring. I did get a pet frog in one, though. That's also a bit uninspiring, but, whatever. /shrug (Not torqued off because I really didn't care about it. I care more about the image GGG projects and the possible liabilities they are exposing themselves to with anything that can be viewed as a "Loot Box." Bad for business. In another time, it may have been a non-issue. Not today, though. Last edited by Morkonan#5844 on Mar 4, 2018, 3:45:52 PM

" Someone referenced Battlefront 2, which is pay to win, which is a problem in any game. Out of all that I posted, that is the one thing you responded to? Last edited by Blakwhysper#5612 on Mar 4, 2018, 4:22:52 PM

" No Just No! It would Have to be a quad tab if anything at all. I pity the early supporters with160 normal tabs still. I only have 4 and Hate them. Everything builds up fast. I filled up 2 quads just with Uniques found last league. A 6 tab pack would fill up by most players within 1-2 months easy. Everyone I would take a leap of faith here will agree with me. You buy Quads or nothing. It’s inventory Tetris suicide if you go with standard tab sizes. *** Dedicated MTX Collector ***

" I hope you do realize they already do. They always sell sets as armor packs. Especially after mystery boxes are no longer available. |

" theres nothing in those lootboxes that will give you any advantage in the game at all in any way, nor can you trade them to make real world money from them. Putting either or both of those things in the boxes would make them sell a shitload more, and they dont have either of them in there. Consider it demonstrated. " well, you sort of are asking for free stuffs. I have 5 seraph armour sets, a silver one and a black one I paid for. I also have a red one, a blue one and a gold one I got for free from playing the game and completing in game activities... " they do list the items, and the probability of getting them, and theyre all just cosmetic shiny things that have no impact in or out of the game. How about people just grow up and learn to take responsibility for themselves, their kids and their wallets? Stop expecting the world to wrap them in cotton wool where they dont have to use any self control because society keeps them all safe and secure like a child in a padded cell who cant be trusted not to hurt themselves. If youre grown up enough to have money then you should be grown up enough to handle being able to spend it yourself for god sake. No one stops an alcoholic buying alcohol and no one stops me from being able to buy it because alcoholics exist, its on them to sort their shit out. If you cant hack a $3 loot box that has a cool looking pair of shoes for your digital character in a game thats fucking pathetic, take responsibility for your own shit and go get help, stop expecting the world to deal with your woeful self control for you like some baby. If you have a credit card and you cant handle this then god fking help you, poe is the least of your problems, the real world is going to eat you alive, that you managed to go out there for long enough to get money to start and made it home with some still left to spend is a complete wonder in itself. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
