Please remove the mystery boxes because it's Hazard Gaming

Loot boxes are the ruin of the industry. Just look what happened with Stars Wars Battlefront 2. Not cool. Just sell the goddamn things directly.

They do, just not right away. I mean, the Fire & Ice MTX stuff will be on sale later on and that was originally a 'loot box' thing. Same for the other stuff like the Chaos & Order/Light sets and effects. This will be no different.
Yeah I can't support GGG while they have loot boxes, and they're pushing too far into p2w with their stash tabs these days.

GGG's ethically questionable business practices have allowed me to not have to had given them anything in years and yet I still get to enjoy all the same content as someone who regularly supports all the hard work real life people and their families put into PoE, who's the asshole now I ask you!
stop loot boxes and fix game guys.
BaronCrovax ign.
I've had a bad taste of these things ever since they were introduced.

Getting duplicate cosmetics is a punch to the gut with them just wasting your points in the chance that you get that one flashy MTX before everyone else. I've tossed this thing aside when I realized what it was doing, but I can't say the same for the ones with more addictive tendencies for gambling.

I'd rather they do more things like the league exclusive hats over these boxes of wasted points. In the meantime, I just recommend for everyone to wait for when they're released and able to be purchased directly. The points are better spent knowing that you'll get what you want.
Don't like it - don't buy it. Let others have their fun.
I post this as an ex-evercrack, ex-T1-MTG(collector of rarities), recovering alcoholic and as a spouse to another that could possibly have addiction issues. I have been a high functioning IT director, I develop software in my spare time and have more than 2 decades of experience in both IT and development with everything from dealing with the Federal Reserve to random "fixes" or 3DLabs drivers back in the day.
Working in development, IT, and finance has given me a somewhat expanded scope and perspective in these matters.
</disclaimer="argument to my own authority">

With all of the backlash from BF2(II)(The remake) GGG is one of the few companies that handle the online store and random loot boxes correctly IMO. GGG does it better, Whoever the new Bungie is does it better (plug because I love my FPS's but Bungie today is not the same Marathon Bungie) than nearly any company out there.

That said. There is a HUGE amount of information available on how dopamine is released and quite a few studies on how to maximize "player retention" or in particular as I like to call it the "just one more level effect" (stolen from somewhere, don't remember the origin) or just one more box" effect. GGG does somewhat avoid this by allowing you to purchase items, if a bit expensive ones, directly after the "Mystery Boxes" are no longer available(Why this does not jive with the premise is obvious due to some people lacking impulse control for various reasons genetic or social).

The bigger problem really is GGG introducing so many different "currencies" and having such a capricious RNG. I do fault them for this, I know collection and trading is supposed to be part of the game, but I think they have gone overboard a bit. For someone like myself, paying a 6-15USD$ per account sub would be perfect(Myself, Spouse, Child(she still wears the atlas of worlds t-shirt to school)) for the amount of enjoyment we get out of PoE And we wouldn't mind getting everything with a monthly sub. This however would fracture the player base. There are a great many people that just can not throw 30 USD$ at entertainment so the ftp model with benefits works.

Perhaps if GGG gave everyone 1 currency stash tab(due to need of accumulation) and maybe 1 map stash tab(ditto) and changed the default stash tabs to allow public sales(change standard to premium). They would invite more people to a system that would retain and encourage more expenditure and make the game better for all of us. The storyline may be weak, but most of your mechanics are top notch.

</end rambling stream of thought>

Thanks, James

Mystery boxes are dirty way to earn money. Tricking kids to buy points to spend on boxes with a low (or non existant) chance to get armour effects. In my country this is called Hazard Gaming and is illegal for kids.

Put the new sin and innocence sets as armour packs instead and stay classy.

don't give your kids credit cards? answer solved? LOL wtf

I bought two supporter packs and used the points strictly on sin and innocence boxes. I ended up spending 2400 points on boxes, and getting way more than 2400 points worth of stuff. I have a few missing weapons etc, but the full armor set of sin and innocence and almost the full set of sin. If you want to buy stuff when it releases a month after bestiary league ends, you can. It will cost a lot...

No one is forcing you to buy it, if you don't like it then don't purchase it. Simple solution stupid.

Why does everybody think gambling boxes are designed to take advantage of people who *aren't* stupid? That is not the people they are targeting with the gambling boxes. They are targeting people who are bad at probability maths, and people who are gambling addicts.

-----------
PS: I guess with their "Every item is worth at least 30" claim, they are kind of targeting people who are good at maths, since the expected value is positive, right? Because of double-ups, though, this is clearly just a deliberately misleading claim. You can pretty much guarantee if you buy enough boxes that most of the items won't have a value of 30 to you.

PPS: Most people who play PoE probably have a pretty addictive personality anyway... :o
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:
