Something is wrong with Map Drop rates...

It is important to remember the German word TANSTAAFL:

There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch

Listen, it's cool for gear and such to have to be earned, but one thing I really hate about POE is the sense that just being able to play the game at an appropriate level is a commodity that has to be earned. There is space for rare and valuable maps that are extra rewarding, like unique map drops, but forcing people to grind out maps way below their abilities just because they can't afford or havn't had the RNG to get appropriate tiered maps to their character is just bad. It leads to boredom and frustration, like if the game forced you to keep running act 1 over and over even when you are high enough level that you should be in act 4. This is my #2 main gripe with POE after the trade system (or more accurately, lack thereof).

You just want the game to shout "Game Over, please play again" at some point rather than leaving that choice up to you.
My own experience of the league is if following a shaped strat then maintaining a single tier (even t10) isn't viable without excessive investment. Maintaining e.g. 10+11+12+13 is much more manageable. (And I don't mean due to bonus; just that you aren't handicapping yourself with -1/-2 drops not being useful and +1/+2 drops just breaking even.)

Second thing is map drops just like other drops in poe are still very streaky. If you are on a cold streak and blindly burn through all your top tier maps then you will scupper yourself. Ease off to lower tiers until you strike warm again. Even if this is just down to rng and I am imagining the streaks it still feels psychologically good to have a strat to deal with bad luck.

Meaning you only get out of PoE mapping as must as you are willing to sink (I always hate the work invest) into it. Then you must also be willing to be constantly smacked down by RNGesus all the time. If you understand the uber rng in PoE then you can map without bad rng (the norm) driving you insane.

Mapping has not been a sink as in the old days for a long time now. It is true investment, because if you do it properly, you will get map drops and more currency back.

The challenge is to get up to those high maps. Sure you don't have to enjoy it, but it is how it's ment to be. It makes map drops valuable and something to exite. Harbringer was terrible because of that for me, maps were so common they were just toilet paper everywhere.

I would actually like to see them re-up the lower level maps a bit. People were complaining that they got lower tier drops before the War, but now it kind of makes sense to have an abundance of them.

Completly agreed! It's my first season and i simply can't believe such a bad design. A game that prevents you from progressing thru the content by rng on maps and forces you into buying maps. The problem is reflected by higher tier map prices which are just ridicolus. 10 tier 15 maps are worth 150 chaos. And this without any rolling sextants and so on. You want to run 10 of them it's 2 ex+. The only way to break even on currency is having other high tier map drops which just doesn't happen in an amount that would let you break even. That's why the prices are so high -> "The problem on a plate".

To those who claim there are sooo many options to improve map drops -> Y i thought so too -> Build a mf ranger did everything possible and it's still the same. The only way i see to realisticly be able to sustain map costs is to run in 6 player groups to divide the costs thru 6. Which i personly absolutly, don't enjoy and don't want to be forced into just to access the content.

TLTR: Low higher tier map drops destroy the fun for me, i think i'm done with the game
yep
i run t10 shap haunted mansion 10map.
20% quality, 90%+ IIQ, and 20%+ pack size.My character is 90Quantity found. atlas is at 110/157
No T10 or T11 drop.
This is bullshit!
Affter 4 year i'm done.
Even if you only run T3 Burial Chamber with the alch and go strategy it's harder to sustain, Usually i get more T3 return by this strategy. But now it#s really hard. I need to either buy the map or do some T5 Maps and hope for Burials to drop.

The whole Map system is just bad. Even if you want to progress on your atlas you are gated behind massive RNG. It would be cool if certain Map are just zones. For each tier there is one Zone for free. On this Zone Map there should be no Div Cards and reduced Currency drop. Atleast we have a "anchor" if we run out of Maps. Running Map Zones can atleast help you to gather some Maps of the same Tier

Maybe with the temple the next league, we should see more maps available? I usually have problem sustaining the same type of maps, not the same level pool of maps.
And during last week they have ruined some of my precious maps with the almighty lag spikes, and it makes life even harder for exiles.
