They have given no indication that this will ever happen. This thread is random speculation and that is it.
They have nursed this baby from inception, I don't see them giving it up just when the player base is getting solid and after putting 6 years of work into it. Now for a Billion dollars, I would help them sign the check. But, yeah. Draw something went for $180 Million
I would assume that if GGG were offered a similar amount they would go for it. (I know i would!) And if they were to sell out, i would say congratulations. They have developed an amazing product, they deserve to make money out if it. I am sure a lot fo blood, sweat and tears went into making it. Forum signature

Choose one:
a) Become a millionaire overnight and never worry about money or even have to work ever again b) Keep slogging away 18+ hours per day trying to fix desync forever while an ever-dwindling playerbase of hardcores bitch on the forums. Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

I feel like selling out is such a harsh way of putting it. I mean naturally, if they're bought they'll have to answer to someone else. But at the same time, with access to more funds for the game, and depending on the influence of the buyer... in some ways it could be positive. Though I have to say that's most definitely wishful thinking on my part. I tend to give the world more credit than it probably deserves.
But honestly, playing through this game I'm inclined to agree with other people who say that this game is very niche. I've had a few friends roll some new hardcore characters with me, and trying to explain to them how much is involved in planning out a build for yourself, and just how punishing building wrong can be is really intimidating to a lot of them. Even giving them links to forum posts that will help them with their first character they're still overwhelmed with all the different stats that can roll on gear, and trying to figure out just what works and what doesn't. While I enjoy this game more and more, it also becomes obvious to me that the kind of people that like this kind of game are probably a minority in the ARPG gaming community, at least currently. GGG has made an outstanding game. |
