Nope. The problem is that we can scale leech by damage, and we can scale damage through the roof. There's no trade off. In past games, there was a distinct "cost" to developing a character that relies heavily on leech.

There is one trade off - no regen. That's why all that VPers are complaining all the time about ascendancies, traps and labyrinth farming.

You misunderstood. There's no drawback to having leech. You get more leech when ever you get more damage. It's a bonus on a bonus. Vaal Pact is just a modification of the problem. Leech itself is too powerful because it scales with something you're already trying to scale up.

DP makes it even worse, because that damage scales on max life. So we're getting a bonus on a bonus on a bonus when ever we take a life node. That's the issue.

Honestly, I decided to finally give VP a shot with a berserker I made recently. I have to say that I absolutely hate it, and if feels disabling. My experience will likely be different than that of others, but I play with a 700-900ms ping, so DoTs can be extremely deadly for me. When I start taking a heavy bleed or something, I won't even know it for nearly a second.

So yeah, definitely prefer to regen about 700+ hp/sec.
Combat is simple.
Keep your blood in.
Take theirs out.
