Yeah i dunno, they went from back to back great leagues with Breach and Legacy to the worst league of all time coupled with increasingly ugly mtx and poor balance choices. Xbox is the only new factor but then again, what can you expect when you start a Xbox version when your PC version well below stable and is still introducing bugs by the patch.

Hell they couldn't even manage buffing this shit tier league, they fucked up and made the only part anyone liked worse!

You sir are spilling out a bunch of nonsense. How legacy was a good league??? It was a shitty league with absolutely nothing new? Since when "op rewarding leagues has become "good leagues"? I do agree that breach is great but legacy was nothing but a fucking mess. Seriously dude look at prophecy league, essence was shit too. I think harbinger kinda sucks but it doesn't suck as much as prophecy for example

Legacy actually seemed like a decent league compared to the Harbinger crap. New uniques? Good luck getting one of those to drop when those harb fuckers are too greedy to even drop enough shards. It's a shithole league even after the supposed ''drop buffs''. I don't think GGG's devs even know what ''buffs'' stand for.

My point is - if harbinger league came out before breach and legacy - people wouldn't be complaining this much.
first league that i quited after 1 week

Honestly the issue is that harbinger league came out after perandus. Perandus annoyed some folks because it the same currency dropping 4-11 times and had to be clicked on. Somehow GGG figured that if players hate clicking 4-11 times for same currency, they will love clicking 4-11 times for different currency. If harbinger came before even perandus, it might not have been so bad.

One word, progression. You always ought to do better than before, not worse. Hell, we would even be happier if they implanted league stone as core part of game, just so that harbinger stay interesting. But hell, there are better games out there for me to waste my time on. Players are earned and retained, if you do worse, they will lost interest.

The buff to boss health, and more importantly, the nerf to pack size absolutely blows my mind.

F*cking this.

End-game feels pretty bad atm, already my third character because I didn't found anything that is fun to play...
- Super Saltyajin God -
Harbinger doesn't feel like a league to me. This is standard with extra Harbinger mechanic. I ran tropical island 41 pack size, and it's so fucking empty

Buffing boss hp is no problem at all if you play strong build they die fast and super easy.
Problem is bad skills and items need huge buff, because build diversity is now very limited.
If you want fun in PoE you need follow meta, niche hipster build = suffering and bad efficiency.
Also a lot of content is simply impossible for bad skills / builds / items.

Your choices are mostly illusion.

And those are the worst kind, because they present a kind of lie to a new player. Betrayals of trust like that are rarely forgiven.

"What? I wasn't supposed to play Lightning Strike? How the fuck was I supposed to know that?!"

There is a meta, and there's the in-between of informed players, and then there are casual players and people who don't like spoilers and try to play a game without going straight to the walkthrough websites. You can ridicule those people (and many white knights in these forums do), but their approach is every bit as legitimate, in my opinion. Those are the indivuduals who get shat upon the most heavily by the plethora of false choices in this game.

In short, false choices are worse than no choices, because they demonstrate to a new player that nothing in the game can be trusted, and make the meta-or-go-home problem even worse than it already is.

to be fair this game has always been cruel to those who do not do their homework,

this is not new

With all due respect, "This is not new" is a terrible defense for... just about any flawed design decision I can think of, really. Or, to be more precise in the case of PoE, persistently neglected existing design flaws.

In my opinion, it's perfectly fine to require players to do their homework (or learn themselves through shitloads of trial and error--but really, most people would rather do the homework) late in the game to learn advanced techniques for success.

It is not perfectly fine to require players to do their homework to succeed (or rather, not to fail utterly) on the character select screen, nor on their initial assumption that certain apparently strong defense-buffing nodes on the passive tree are not trash tier (a reasonable assumption), nor on their initial choice of an attack skill that is presented to them as a primary attack with no indication that it is in fact trash tier.

These are decisions which are literally made within the first 30 minutes of play. Super, super basic things. Good game design requires they be intuitive. And interesting ARPG game design requires genuine choices, not lies dressed up as choices.

PoE with all its mechanics, huge skilltree and huge selection of skills is too complicated for that. If you balance the early and midgame to be doable with every build decision then a decent build will be so strong that all of it becomes pointless.

There are many games out there that try to make every choice viable and all of them turn out boring and too easy. It is one of those design goals that look right on paper but turns out to be bad.

power creep. what you want is a cheap 'buy playtime' method of making game better. give players better rewards or else

when in fact what should be done is 'different' not 'better'

GGG made a catastrophic mistake when they caved in into stupid demands - and we got 'free loot and free everything' leagues (perandus/breach/legacy)

people spoiled once wont heal over time. they remain spoiled and as such you eiter cave in again or loose this part of playerbase

Those were fun leagues . stop with this " Spoiled " bullshit. We play video games to have fun and be spoiled. It's not a daytime job or a class we take. You haven't even played the league so why are you even defending it ?
