Steam!

Hey all,

So would anyone else ♥ to see this game on the Steam platform?

If the good people of grinding gear games worked out a partnership with valve I could guarantee instant profit and a larger gathering for when the game goes live.

You could also use the Steam Overlay with it of course and beable to surf the net and message your friends using it without having to Alt-Tab or play in windowed mode.

I hooked PoE in steam last night and it works just fine, lets make it happend Grinding gear!
you can link a non steam game. but if they do a trade system with steam like valve has for dungeon defenders, TF2, Portal. it would improve this game alot. but if all else fails, you can link a nonsteam game and use that overlay. also people could use there steam wallets to purchase stuff from the POE store with that.

Steam will only screw this game over, rather not have this game on Steam and have it be standalone so the developers won't have to pay Steam and can actually put that money towards developing more awesome content.

Seem weak so the proud enemy gets overconfident, then crush him.

They would be ecstatic if this game was accepted by Steam. They would probably become the millionaires they are praying everyday to become off this game.

How exactly would steam screw this game? im lost, bunch of F2P games on steam doing great and recieving updates.

Also those F2P games on Steam are Standalone as well..

Bringing steam features, advertising and community to PoE is win/win

& @Mordius Indeed PoE would be raking in the dough!

Yes, because bringing millions of potential players in return for a cut of the profits is screwing them over.

steam restrains the developer too, you have to follow their patch and control systems for mods and the like. for example to release a patch on g.f.w. aka xbox live costs a developer 40k, mostly charged by Microsoft. valve does similar with the steam games. besides this game is going to be free to play with most likely a external system of micro-transactions rather then a internal one.

besides this part of the eula prevents me and should prevent you from using it.

Steam's EULA
"
"... a limited, terminable, non-exclusive license and right to use the Software for your personal use in accordance with this Agreement and the Subscription Terms. The Software is licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Software."

yes that's right you don't own that data on your hard drive and they reserve the full rights of removing it without giving you any reason or refund if mistaken.

Mhm...source? Valve does something similar to charging $40k to patch a game? I suspect you have a very broad definition of similar.

google is your friend.

it's how valve, microsoft and also others are raking money with these systems. they not only take a 'cut' of the price of selling you a short term, non-negotiable, revocable at any time license to play the game it's for. but also charge serious devs and independent devs for the tools so your game can run on steam, be patched by steam, and allow mods within the confines of steam. well what little mods of games they allow.

to put it bluntly, unless the devs of this game say otherwise. this will not be on steam because it's not in their financial benefit to do so. Granted you can link it into steam manually and have it listed in your games list. though steam might nuke the game if they decide to say, terminate your account for cheating in tf2.
