When a players starts blaming the game because he does not want to make any choices .... well the game might not be the best fit for him in the first place then.
Accelerating the speed meta even more wish such silly ideas would be plain terribad.

We must be playing a different game.
Let me describe you what I did in PoE yesterday, playing 5 hours on my slow non meta life based "true melee" dude (Cleave with no inc AoE whatsoever), from lvl 91 0% to lvl 92.
Numbers are included not for bragging, more to provide information and relation.

*I played an estimate of 50 red tier maps (I only counted the last 12 maps to get from 65% xp to 100%) or 10 leaguestone rotations, some pretty rippy maps included. Meaning it took me an average of 6 minutes to clear a map, chill out in my hideout, make trades, smoke a couple dozen cigarettes...

*I didn't die once.

*In the last 12 maps, I hit around 55 mio xp/hour, while still picking up every single item I care about (solid armour/evasion base items, all jewelry, all swords and axes, and of course the meta stuff), identifying, judging and (most often) vendoring them all in between maps, only then starting to craft my next map etc.

*I picked up every currency item I felt like I need, even wisdom scrolls.

*I obtained and sold items for about 800 chaos.
2 lucky big ticket items for 600 chaos (accidentally put 6L on a Carcass Jack, Cadiro gave me Shavs Revelation), but also ~200 chaos in smaller stuff like "twice enchanted" prophecies.

*I bought the last missing piece for my build, a 400c The Red Nightmare jewel.

*I found an item upgrade for myself:

Also found several items that were "close" to being wonderful, put them up for sale, sold some of them.

*I got 6 new maps into my atlas (I was missing the branch from t9 Crypt onwards, finally got the three graveyards to 3:1 into crypt). I don't like to buy content, I want to SSF it.

And most of all, I had fun.

Just forget about the "meta". Play the f***ing game.

however, if you want to buy yourself a nice thing (not a vanity item - but a rare item that you need for your build to work. like a +1 curse amulet on a certain base - you get the type of items im talking about here) - you better embrace the clear speed meta or you wont EVER get yourself these items. 'farming' for them is just stupidity with current drop chances


one ofc can aim low and get along with semi-completed build and plateau at T6 maps. anyone can do whatever one wants

but if you want to actually 'complete' the game (be it shaper (meh), comfortable red mapping (better) or just feeling 'complete' (personal)) - you cannot aim low. and that means doing stuff in at least remotely efficient way. (one can ofc bruteforce the RNG with hours spent but not everyone here is unemployed or an underage on holidays etc)

is it clear why this 'clear speed meta' is something people are rather inclined to interact with? you wont get yourself a nice things (other than by a sheer luck) without participating


you listed your achievements from last day few posts below. now imagine that one playing clear speed meta and actually ignoring all garbage could make twice as much in half the time and.. believe or not - still have fun

I can gear every melee dude with <5c per item slot for yellow maps.
I can do this SSF.

I'll make enough currency in yellow maps to buy some key upgrades (6L chest, >300 DpS weapon, steel rings or whatever) in reasonable time - the time it takes to unlock all those yellow and low red maps.

I can then farm red maps in a non painful way.
There I get enough currency to buy a couple even bigger items.

I take that for granted. Always happened, will always happen.

With an investment of about 10 Ex total, my main is pretty much "completed".
He would have been fine on 6 Ex as well, now he's just "even more completed", just feels a tiny bit safer now.

Obviously, I am limited in what I will achieve with this playstyle.
I will most likely not buy Uber Atziri gloves or mirror a 550 dps onehander.
Would take me at least a week of saving up currency, and I'm not really good at "saving", I'd most likely spend it halfway on some useless minor upgrade.

But again, that's fine, I don't really need that stuff.
I know that beforehand, and I can build around not needing to spend 15ex on a glove slot.

I ignored them so far, not because I only collect meta items, but because even for my non-meta builds, I consider AR/EV shields a sub par choice. Not only are there excellent unique shields, I'm also not sure how good an item can get, when it needs 4 prefixes but can only have 3. What sort of stats are you expecting?

When I find one, I'll give it to you for free. ;-)

Next time try to not conveniently ignore the next message of the person you're quoting, you might make less of a fool of yourself.

Just use strict version of item filter and all You see is worth picking up.

Yeah, but items you dont see, also could be good. But, that's the sacrifice you put at the altar of efficiency.
But there is the bigger problem with it. If most players will use strict loot filters and ignore armour/evasion pieces, non-crit weapons, staves, etc. - then game will be pushed even more into small amount of OP meta builds, because non-meta ones will struggle with obtaining good items for their build (cause no one picks them up). It already happens with PoE, and it's NOT good for game at all.
