I watched a news segment about some American North Koreans who escaped from North Korea. They set up this thing where people deposit thumb drives with random Western stuff, they send them to South Korea, tie them to balloons and let them go. The thumb drives will fly over North Korea and are set to fall after a time, where they will be viewed and a lot of lies will be debunked.

I often feel like doing the same to North America.

That's not actually what they're asserting. "Receives massive amounts of entitlements at taxpayer expense, bankrupting the nation" is not the same status as "achieved inner peace and enlightened self-actualization." It's as if your liberal mind has been hard-wired to believe that the former must, must, must cause the latter to occur. If only we could have more entitlements, then our lives would be glorious.

But that's not how it works.

The really sad thing isn't that you have taken on the debt of an entire generation to pay for entitlements for immigrants. The really sad thing is that, even after all that waste, their lives are still shit... and as their resentment grows, they're going to blame you.

I mean, everyone knows rapists are just such happy-go-lucky people. Not festering with deep-seated resentment or anything.

I think it's because having the bare minimum to live dealt with is not some massive handout. Because having a place to sleep (usually in a tent, usually in a space shared with hundreds of other people) and food is considered the bare minimum of what qualifies as an existence here. I'm living at around minimum wage and I wouldn't trade what I have here for what they have. No way, no how. They've got it easy in the same way a prison inmate technically "has it easy". Nobody wants to trade with them. None of the people bemoaning how easy they have it have the balls to do so.

It's the same with illegal immigration to the USA. Go ahead, try to survive for a month or two with no documentation. Get a job without a valid SSN. Find housing without any documents proving who you are or where you live. Do all this while all the time knowing that at any time, it can all be taken from you by the whim of an ICE agent, and any given time you go to the police, that might be the end of your American dream. See how well you do. Added bonus: do it after leaving everything you own and everyone you know behind. Although, that's still not quite fair - if you're white, you won't face nearly the same scrutiny or discrimination.

That's why I explicitly said "if their asylum status has been approved". They don't live in tents if that has already happened, they don't live worse than an unemployed German and not much worse than someone on minimum wage (I'd argue the latter is almost worse because you work full time but are financially not much better off than an unemployed guy).
