I think it's more from the line in "The Matrix":
"It's not the spoon that bends, it's YOU that bends!"

I'd recoomend you guys to stop feeding trolls or dinosaurs, but I don't want either species to decline because of starvation, so go on...

Back on the main topic:
I play quite a lot, though not as much as others. I generally use this time to buy items that look like they have potential yet aren't really popular yet. For example I sold a lot of my other currency and items early on to buy abberath's hooves, 34 c at that time (heh). I though that 1. they looked interesting with their own skill and 2. If they aren't, at least I can use them to give an iron will build an additional boost. This is an extreme example, but usually almost all truly unique items see some kind of use sooner or later.
Try to get items with a lot of potential early on, it's worth it.
I make dumb builds, therefore I am.
About flipping - you need initial currencie to start it. And unless you got lucky with good item, I doubt you will get a lot fast. People are aware of woops and correctly pricing their items today. Unless ofcourse you have exquisite knowledge of non-straightforward rare items worth like crit, wed, rarity shenanings without Life + Res.

I have Woops setup for good rare accessories and jewels as well. I can't care less to price them correctly though, so 3 stats jewels are kept for 40c and nobody buys them.

Problem with flipping is that when you don't have a lot of currencie and want certain item for yourself actually, bunch of people who already have trillion mirrors buy them faster just to get even more wealth and make you salty.

Just playing a lot goes a long way too. I would imagine people who play 10-12 hours a day are, by sheer brute force, going to have several times the wealth of a person who plays less. I say this as someone who played such hours first 2 weeks.. and it has paid off (see spoiler). The down side is now i feel kinda burned out.

Spoiler

Noway you gained this much currencie just by playing a lot. :o What content you played? What's your build? What services you done for people? What was your trades? Did you RMT'ed in the begining to get boost? Was you in group? Etc. etc.

Sure, just playing a lot of hours isn't enough to make you rich. Playing a lot of hours doing the right things, knowing what sells, and how to get it... You can play for 12 hours a day and not make any cash, if you are doing the wrong things with that 12 hours..

And details are?...

Here was my strat: Do tons of prophecies. Sell everything I get for chaos (I very rarely seal any prophecy) and buy more coins. People will pay 2c for lifesprig, goldrim and wanderlust early on (these are probably vendor trash by now). Kintsugi I think I sold for 40-50c the first few times I got it. There are tons of medium sized payoffs (Belly of the Beast, Tabula Rasa). Even fated uniques go for a decent amount early on.

Reach of the Council from the Pale Court is probably the most reliable payoff. You WILL get the keys. You can't count on say, the Voidheart prophecy or guaranteed six-link (extremely rare). But that bow is a 1/4 drop chance, and its worth 6-7 exalts.

But it's not begining of the League now. Prophecie flipping is less profitable in current meta, because of coin price. They are fucking expensive (3 coins for 1 chaos, as opposed to 6:1 and better ratios during previous Leagues). And it's boring af.

This.

Play the game. Sell your items. Keep playing.

You won't get wealth, unless you know what you are doing. And I am talking wealth here - enough currencie to buy a Headhunter and fund your build with GG gear.

Well that's not early on now. :) Besides despite how good this items are if popular streamers won't lay their hands on them - they can become even cheaper.

I don't believe that anyone could make 100 Ex by now just by playing a lot in high content, even if he played for record breaking ammounts of time. It just doesn't make sense. Even Shaper farm can yield you a pair of gloves or boots that decline in price real quick and won't pay for your fragments.
