Suggestion: More skill gem sinks - Gemcutter's shard?

Ok, I know there are few of them, like roll resistance ring or onyx amulet, but that's seriously not enough. I think lots of people would agree, that these nice little shiny things taking up a lot of space in stashes.
There are really valuable skill gems, they sell well, but that's only a few.

I don't know if it was suggested before, but there's my idea.
My suggestion is simple: any red+blue+green skill gem = gemcutter's shard. 20 gemcutter's shards makes 1 GCP (similar to alchemy shards, for example).

This will add nice gem sink, and won't devalue GCP, because you'll still need 60 gems for one GCP.

I don't know. People would just make 1 character after another, put the first 2 skill gams they got (start and as rewards when you are first time in the city) in the chest and delete the character.

Only possibility I see here is to make gems you got from quests not changeable for gem cutter shards. Then it would work and I guess 40 Shards would be enough for a GCP.
Well i thought about that. Not sure if creating so many characters is worth effort.
Of course number of shards needed to create GCP could be increased as you say.

The count doesn't matter, if there's an exploit, people will abuse it. What I can suggest is that one would require some monster drop only reagent to work with it. Then it should work.

By the way, please give a though of my previous gem sink thread: New Vendor Recipe for Map Item as Gem Sink

I like the idea of using useless gems in more recipes (like maps in the post above) and perhaps a vendor recipe that involves selling gems to reroll a gem of the same type e.g. sell 3 red gems and you get a random new red gem. Or sell 3 green support gems and you get a new green support gem. I think it'd be an interesting RNG way to get that Chain or GMP you need too.

I agree though no matter what the gem sink is you need to be weary of possible exploitation.

The only way to avoid exploitation is to add in the requirement of monster drop only reagent that's not so common. I try not to go down the path where one start to flag where does the gem comes from. And technically, the first gem drop is identical to others, unless one start to flag it as "THE FIRST GEM".

There are already gem sinks: onyx amulets and resistance rings.
You could make it so you get 1 shard for every 10 levels required to use the gem, and a GCP is 100 shards(a gem that has a level requirement of less than 10 won't give a shard).

Well, yeah, but once you've got those, then what?

How many onyx amulets and resistance rings would you need?
