Read that thread GGG, look at the community youve made with your free loot league. Anyone who points out that people are bitching because of free loot like myself, downvoted. Its actually hilarious because the responses are "you missed the point, its not about the loot" but anyone whos literate and can read the first few top comments can see thats exactly what its about, theres even more lower rated. Prophecy League is a much better iteration of Perandus League. The coins arent easily farmed and the Prophecies arent either. You cannot simply "spam reset" for coins and Cadiro deals and walk out with Tier 1 uniques. If you want to get rid of prophecies you have to seal them at the cost of coins, this is great because it prevents deterministically farming the good ones. Whats even better is it gives you a choice, do it or dont do it at the cost of coins. What i find even more amazing is the players complete lack of competence on how to use the "bad ones" for instance, Plague of Rats and Plague of Frogs, which can give a substantially boost to the EXP and loot you find in a map if youre patient enough to let it pop in a map. Theres already bitching about coin seal cost and bad prophecies here and people are soo concerned about their free loot that they dont give a shit enough to realize that its the balancing point. Half of my prophecies are "kill a random rare and get a unique". That's not much different from what Brodiro was doing. Maybe one tiny bit better than Perandus, but still a "free loot league".
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.

"Yes, thats why i said its a better iteration of Perandus League, the point im getting to though is its not enough free loot for players and the entitled whiners are coming out of the woodwork complaining about it. The majority of the unique drops arent high tier unique items, only a handful of them are like Maligaros, Astramentis, Sire of Shards etc. They have a handful of useful good ones but they also have a handful of leveling ones, its a good balancing point soo that you arent obtaining the GG items instantly but they are giving you free loot that can help you define a build. Its nothing like getting a Kaoms, Shavs, Lightning Coil, etc deal off of Cadiro. I think this league is substantially better than Perandus in terms of balancing the loot that the league gives out. We all know Perandus league was overly generous with the loot, Prophecy league is moderately generous. Harvest sucks! But look at my decked out gear two weeks in!

what is worse than that?
that the future is BOUND to be even more free loot, even more power creep, even easier game, even more content 'with rewards', even more... POE's original point of attraction for me was the unforgiving gameplay, long but steady progress, variety of builds. this made people that like hard and challenging games play it and - literally - fund it but it seems the quality is less money than quantity and POE is now open to a 'mass consumer'. so we have a care-bear difficulty (TABULA RASA is the f.. most used item in HARDCORE lvl80+!!! this is shameful disgrace. sign of ultimate end of POE being difficult game!), we have instant rewards and the build diversity is 'what flavor of FOTM youd like sir?' the difference between FOTM and 'classic' builds is so massive that these feel like two different games. when you condition your customers that no matter how bad they are, how little thought process they ve put into the game they DESERVE rewards and big ones - there is no turning back. humans like reward - that builds their self-esteem (some players unfortunately have only 'game success' to be happy about - sad fact of life), this give them the endorphin shot we all need. at first it was: no loot / hard game no loot / hard game but more map content some extra loot BUT walking disguised as exiles and requiring a kill. many died trying to get that loot then we've got more and more loot gated behind less and less challenging content then we've crossed the Rubicon: SUPER EXTREME ULTRA GOOD loot for.. free. (thats Perandus btw) there is no turning back. people are already whining that Prophecies 'have no rewards'. well guys.. if everyone gets it for free - then it is worthless. thats first. and second - you play for fun? or for pixel rewards? if you do not have fun because game is not giving you free pixels i strongly suggest taking a step back and looking at your life as there is something seriously wrong going on there. another sign of the crowd that makes up most of poe' playerbase (entitled and demanding) is the group confusing 'hand out' and 'a reward for a challenge' (ascendancy points + the lab). they do not like doing lab (fine, anyone can do that) but because they do not like doing it - they want the reward for free (no - making it a map filled with monsters you can mindlessly right click with your dps is NOT an alternative. it is asking for free points AND free xp to boot..) so let us all prepare for more demands. demands that ggg is most probably already forced to accept and deliver - their customers changed (not without ggg strong guidance) so the game is changing too because ggg needs their customers more than customers need ggg (most are short-term players anyway) |

"It would be interesting to see player retention if the next league is a pure challenge league but i doubt that will happen. I already called out in a previous post before Prophecy League that it would likely be similar to Perandus League, it was. I wish they would do a pure challenge league at this point, it would be good for the community and especially good for the people whove been waiting for a good challenge. Harvest sucks! As a ssf player I agree. I didn't play perandus and won't play this league either. I don't find loot being handed to me appealing.

agree 100% but Im not surprised at that reddit post. this is peoples mentality nowadays.
poe for a lot of people is just efficiency for the sake of efficiency. its sad. because prophecy has the best content for a temp league IN A LONG TIME and the main point of those complaining is that prophecies are 'waste of time' compared to chaining gorges or whatnot. for people wanting to do something, it must be on par with speedrunning gorges. how the fuck do you compete with that ? you cant. and thats the main problem- GGG ramped up the pace of the game so much people are too lazy to do anything but the most efficient thing, which is a like a 2 minute map clear and every time someone mentions backtracking as a bad game design, every single metroidvania game is rolling in its grave. |
