You don't need to play a super optimized build to have an insane clear speed these days.

Earthquake can pretty 1-shot the whole screen.
Caustic Arrow 1-shots most packs.
More or less anything related with Cast-on-Crit (+whirling blades)
Defensive 6-7K low dps Voltaxic Builds (That means the 200%+ increased life builds with somewhat low damage)
Blade Vortex (again whirling blades)
Reave

I and many others could keep listing builds that have a great clear speed which is way to fast. What these builds have in common is you clear mobs at such a high rate they don't even get a chance to fight back.

This is why reflect, fire- / frost- / thunder-bearers, Volatile Blood and porcupines are so dangerous. Because they deal damage after they died. Hell it is about the only damage you will receive in this game :(

It has gone to far. Way to far. The power creep is real :(

Maybe i am still poor or something, but the only thing really fantastic in clear speed for me is not earthquake, nor caustic arrov, not even coc (coc sometimes doesn't even proc due to its "chance to proc"... and when procs, not every skill is overpowered... example.... try to beat a super sturdy boss with fireball/arctic breat coc... :/ ).... the real fastness is ARC. and i love it <3

the thing is, i reached this point with an RT bow build thanks to ascendancies.



In a game in wich armor sucks... and you must wear a coil.... and a single point blank freezing pulse by a mob robs you half your life etc etc etc... well, we at least need an offence that can work as a defense :/

I mean, I ran a non-crit claw BoR cycloner with 87% net chance to evade AND armour and enfeeble on top of that, I didn't kill stuff quickly at all but I was practically immortal, facetanked Residence dominus, Jungle Valley, etc. That was the build I got kind of bored of since I just held down a button and waited for stuff to die. It's doable and Ascendancy classes really help.

You can literally farm dried lake all day following party doing nothing with your xp gear and still reach level 100.

I gotta agree. Like 90% of the characters I've seen doing faceroll/1shot-screen stuff are the poison double dippers (I mean the ones I've partied with). It actually got annoying for me being the one doing the most damage and I wish there were more builds than didn't require insane gear or broken-meta mechanics to do damage.

At this point most of the time when I see somebody saying "we kill stuff too fast" I think "No, you partied with somebody once that killed stuff 'too fast' and it made you feel bad about your build."

I absolutely agree. I think the "clearspeed meta" needs to go. There are things that can kill you so fast that you have no time whatsoever to react. The solution often involves cranking your attack speed to absurd levels, which gets you killed the moment something casts lightning thorns. (or whatever else that punishes you for attacking too fast)

A different take on this: Why does GGG spend so much time on art and assets (talking about monsters in particular, here) on things that only appear on your screen for .1 seconds before they die?

GGG is always in a constant state of "skate or die" meaning that unless new skills (whether exciting or not) are released for each and every temp league players will get the impression (however false it may be) that PoE has run it's course and is old and stale and thus not worth playing anymore. Once that spreads around the forums GGG is dead. So they must be very careful that our view of PoE is always of a cutting edge arpg (even though another skill I'll probably never use is added) or this schtick or that is just a slight twist on the same old game mechanics. There are already many, many dozens of skills that I can't possibly ever use in my playing 2 builds every temp league and even if I devoted more time to get 3 builds per 3 months I'll never run out of new builds to try.

Perception is the name of the PoE marketing game here and Perandus League was/is super fun just because a ton of gear became available to enable many more builds that hereforto were only available to the rich players. Having tasted the fruits of Cadiro and having created some super fun builds (my triple fire totem GMP Magma Orb Templar Hierophant is a blast, the ultimate scorched earth of destruction) and when he is gone from Wraeclast soon it could prove disastrous for GGG with a lack of endgame gear to try more exotic off-beat builds. Build diversity is the lifeblood of PoE and without Cadiro and his wares to keep us in good supply of great endgame gear this summer could be of a deserted Wraeclast:
