Everyone wanting to PvP in ARPGS have moved on to MOBAs

yep, its a pve game, competitive pve in the form of racing has been successful, we now have the lab too, theres the ladder race, the epeen gear race, the people who give a shit about these things are 10,000:1 people who care about direct pvp.

When do I hear about pvp tournaments etc? Never, only time was when GGG did it. When I played Quake 3 in clans we played in tournaments, we hosted them, we set up our own stuff. Same in Counterstrike, soldier Of Fortune 2, Battlefield 2, we had our own things and if need be our own rules to make the game competitive. If theres something worth talking about in poe pvp why are the community not setting up stuff Im hearing about? I want to watch pvp matches, I want to sell items to pvp players, wheres it at? If you cant even get together and put a blip on the communities radar then whats the point of devoting dev time to it?

It would be criminal to devote any meaningful time to pvp when racing and endgame grinding could be so much better than they are. Both those things are as bare bone as pvp, and yet they are massively played.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
D2 PvP was somewhat popular because there were literally no mobas back then. The gaming culture was also very different back then, people played more and complained less.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
So because all you guys don't like PvP it should be removed for those who enjoy it ?

Lol well its really simple there.

Mechanics really is what ruins PoEs pvp. And these are core mechanics that surely wont be changed so theres nothing you can really do about that.

More like PvP in D2 was fun because you could just enter someones instance and shit on him till he called friends, then they shat on you, till you got a friend of your own as well. That was fun for a while. Then you went and invaded someone elses game.

Not exactly. What we are more or less saying is:

1/ How PvP has been introduced to the game was a big mistake. You can't always add half finished design because players want it sometimes it's better to wait even few years or not releasing anything at all. To make it clear the actual PvP when introduced was looking like a car without wheels and engine so it would have been better to wait a bit beeing able to afford the pieces before adding it to the core game.

2/ We are not in d2 times i'm sorry about that but video games industry made strong alternatives to this design since and players enjoy MOBA for a large part.
Chris didn't invented that stats are pretty clear they are actualy the most played PvP games around the world. Add to that the fact there has been hundreds PvP games it's hard to compete with that. Players attempt changed that's it ! And players games choices were really limited in d2 times aswell comparing to now.

3/ You can add content to please players but at some point and beeing realistic you can't skip the main part of your game for this content if not even 1/10 players is interested by it. The risk is big and not only regarding money but aswell for not having like now the reputation of releasing half finished products.

4/ PoE took many differents ways since the begin and tried to go in many directions i'm personaly glad Chris kinda clarified the futur was in competitive PvE.

5/ Not saying PvP don't have a place here but in his current form it has absolutely no futur and not any chance to be more appealing. If one day someone at GGG got a genius idea i'm sure they will do their best and you know they can be really surprizing and dedicated.

6/ The only thing i find really sad for PvP players like you IceDeal is this should has been clarified at least a year ago or more. I hope you will keep enjoying playing PoE :)
Hf :)

WRONG

I don t know how to say how wrong you are.

Please people go visite the pvp subforums before talking. People been organizing turnament there since long long time.

YOu guys talk without knowing.

Also Chris is wrong.

People did not leave the game for Dota, maybe Greendude the only pvp players GGG contacted did?

The problem is Chris invited Greendude who is a LLD/temp players. Most pvpers are standard HLD players.

GGG have no idea about who and where people play pvp.

Well anyway since this last talk from chris people are really leaving pvp now, but not for dota. People are going to other arpg like devilian even if it is shit.

I may actually try Blade & Soul.
The only way i see myself playing PvP in PoE again ( because i did my fair share of pvping ) is if a balanced pvp is presented. I've always wanted low-lvl pvp where every pvp-only character is presented with a set of skills/items to choose from and kill other players with. That way everyone has the same gear to choose from and character level and what matters will be the actual ability of each player to come up with a good build with the given tools and the ability with which you play your build. Though i fear that if implemented taht will lead to the situation where there are 2-3 "OP" builds and everyone will just play those builds...

I've been saying this same thing for years. Arpgs and mmos don't need pvp side projects, because mobas are entirely dedicated to and specialized purely in pvp. I grew up on D2, and I've been given the opportunity to evolve with gaming. I love that there are so many games that dedicated everything to balancing and perfecting a single aspect or genre. I can play PoE for some relaxing grind time, then move to LoL when I want some pvp, or knockout a few games of Hearthstone on my phone when I'm "kind of" watching tv.

I'm glad that GGG isn't going to waste time or resources in giving us a half-assed pvp side project, when it is completely unnecessary, and only really in demand by the old schoolers who haven't evolved with modern gaming. It's okay to play more than 1 game to get your fix, and the "all-in-one" game that some people dream of will never be excellent at any one thing.
