Previous challenge MTX were far more doable.
Now stop right here, previous MTX challenges happened in 1 month mixed leagues, you can't compare that. If you put indecent challenges in a 1m league you won't discourage only the most casual of the players but everyone that doesn't play 6 hours a day. Talisman challenges were supposed to keep us occupied three times as long and there's plenty of time over the course of 3 months for the market to stabilize so we can do the trade challenges.
Of course, to get everything but the helm you didn't even need to do the trading challenges and the helm is ugly anyway, so the whole thing was overall very reasonable.
I could compare this way: I had fun going for the 1 month MTX and was able to get the red outfit. Looking at the challenges for Talisman, I knew from day 1 it wasn't obtainable for me in HC. That's not fun. And this is a feedback forum after all.
I'd be curious to see what % of THC got the helmet.
They'll look at stats, and the stats are that this is a popular league with high player retention so for what they see it's successful and likely to be copied and the forums just have a few overly noisy complainers.
Balancing game by looking at spreadsheets of data in excel ftw. Maybe that's why they rarely balance properly

Or even the chest piece haha, I gave up on it after awhile.

Players want to feel like they played for 500 hours after only playing 50. You know what? That's not going to happen no matter what GGG does. You'll still be comparing your 50 hour result to what you see people who have played 500 hours have and still feel that you were left out.
How do you suggest GGG fix this other than stamping your feet and saying "fix it!". There isn't a solution. You will always feel that way.
Wise words, if everyone on the forums understood this we could have much more engaging discussions.
I hate to agree with Shags, but I agree with Shags.
I ended up making three characters in Talisman, here are their three talismans:
Static Striker:
Summoner:
Ethereal Knives:
I think I did pretty well. No idea what the community at large will think, and they're certainly not as awesome as they could be, but I'm pretty happy with them.
My only real disappointment was that given how friggin hard it is to get rares it was almost impossible to get rare t4s. I think I made one all league (and it's poo) . The implicits had me excited for my summoner, and well it was downhill from there.
Support a free Hong Kong.

I also looked at the list of challenges (also HC) and knew getting to 28 would be really hard (also i was going on hols for 10 days plus a few at xmas plus rl and work etc). Fortunately the helm was ugly and I'm very happy to have got to 21 because the mtx is MUCH nicer than the red one I have. Got an infernal helm at a discount with my spare points, looks SWEET!
More to the point tho, playing hc inherently makes doing the challenges more difficult (aka even more time spent and more experience required). If you want to get a large quantity of the challenges as a semi-casual/casual play sc, otherwise if you find sc too boring then its a question of accepting that it will be more... challenging ;)

Yeah, like I said, they had to split the reward into difficulty tiers to keep people busy longer, that isn't a problem in 1m.
When they first announced the challenges I went over them and tried to estimate how many challenges I can do with casual playtime and effort. As expected, some of the challenges required buying a significant amount of items I expected to be overpriced because of the challenge so I wrote those off, also L8 Zana because rotations are a hassle and it would be impossible to pull it off solo. After that, I crossed high level stuff like killing map daresso and high level bosses from the list, the build I wanted to play wouldn't be able to handle it and I sure ain't going to buy them.
That left me with some 23 challenges which were all manageable with minimum trading, moderate difficulty and reasonable time investment. I was fine with that, started the league and got everything I expected out of it, some fun and some annoyance, some good talismans and some duds, most of the armor set was a nice extra too. Anyway, the point being - as long as you manage your expectations PoE will rarely disappoint you.
And it's a very nice set to be honest, and brand new. Seraph set is overused in the game, we had original version, elite version, blue, red and radioactive golden, it was old news by the time we got it.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Yeah, realized pretty fast that i can't get the Armor without previous Experience, but sc is no option :D
Could complete 7 challenges easily after beating Malachai yesterday, need to find out if the boots are worth my nice (for my char) rare Dead Hand and one of the unique Talismans and the Currency challenge (.. wait, do i need an exalt, then maybe not yet ... still @ work, no idea o_o) ...

Not really wise words. Shags assumed I was a 50 hour league player, I am not. If the bar for this game is to be set at 8-10 hours of daily playing for getting things like MTX rewards, that is just as shitty as their racing setup (which also requires significant no-lifing). I used to actually win/place in the CB races, now I can't be bothered.
My characters for HTC
90 SRS (Jungle Valley boss), gems nearly hit 20 twice
85 Siege Ballista (possessed piety in a zana daily)
75 Chaos Incin (now the highest)
4-5 others in that 30-60 range

Except they changed races to reward people with points even on death (across all races) and they have for the past 2 seasons I think had a single 24 hour race that only required you to complete normal to get 100 points. I did so in 1 sitting in about 4ish hours, not exactly sure how much I took my time and progressed when I was ready.
This game absolutely doesn't require no-lifing in order to play or participate in almost all aspects except the very high end dealings which even I avoid. I can no-life for a couple of weeks, maybe up to a month and then just drop activity altogether if players realize they won't progress as fast or get as much stuff as quickly as streamers they can still play the game.
(note my no life isn't as no life as others, but when I play something its almost all of my freetime dedicated to it)
