Sneaky Trade Scam Attempt
This certainly starts to look like the recent debate about Poland in European Parliment o;

I dunno why people can't just say "Hey I'm interested in your item listed for x chaos, I am offering y chaos."
We fight to delay the end because it's the means that matter.

" I do this all the time, i don't really care about value for me it's about what i think it's worth. The other side of this coin is that i also don't get offended when my offer is refused :) Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

How can anybody not think that doing something dishonest is dishonest (or maybe scam as some have called it)?
If you change the price and try to deceive the seller, it's dishonest. If you want to haggle, you say "i offer" or "would you take". You don't say "You said you'd sell the item for less than you said you'd sell the item for" and pretend you are bargaining. This happens to me on a daily basis. It varies from a few chaos items to items worth exalts. They'll do what you stated copy the automated message from poe trade and edit the price hoping the seller doesn't realise. I Usually end up muting these people but it's another reason I can't stand trading in this game

" Exactly, I offer only what I'm willing to give. Of course a lot of offer gets refused, but then there are so many similar items listed to sale. |

Can I just point out that there is a linguistic ambiguity in the way the poe.trade message is worded, that does actually allow for two different meanings. That's the joy of the English language. The way it seems to be more commonly intended however, and the way that most people seem to read it, does mean that the price included in the message represents the sellers price that they have listed, not an offer.
The poe.trade message reads like this (using the OP's example): "Hi, I would like to buy your Fulgent Prism Viridian Jewel listed for 4 chaos in Talisman" We can reorder the words to more easily demonstrate how this is could be an offer to purchase: "Hi, I would like to buy, for 4 chaos, your Fulgent Prism Viridian Jewel listed in Talisman" Both sentences can be read to have the same meaning. However, 'listed... in Talisman' is a single clause, and as the original sentence includes the price inside it, a more recognised meaning is that this is the price the seller has given the item. This means that the buyer is misrepresenting the sellers pricing, which is dishonest. It's equivalent to swapping price tags at a garage sale or thrift shop. Yes, you can check the price and correct it before trading (as the OP demonstrated), but it is still a dishonest practice on the part of the buyer. The issue has nothing to do with whether items should be bought only for the sellers listed price or if they can be bought cheaper than that after bargaining. This thread is about people who misrepresent the sellers price in an attempt to acquire an item at a lower price without going through a bargaining process at all. Bargaining is a key part of the trading scene in this game, and trying to circumvent that ruins it for everyone trying to legitimately trade. |

The opposite happens too
I offered 1c for an item listed at 1c on poe.trade The guy invites me, then tells me "it's not listed at 1c, it's listed at 2c" they know you need the item and will most likely buy it anyway so they lie about its price by increasing it a little lel |
