List your AH fears
" On standard its already the case , people don't list items they don't bother to trade just fill their stash with tons of trash left over from dumping of many league. As it stands the players either buy up more stash tabs in hopes of selling crap that will never sell ( Indeed GGG is very evil and makes money buy forcing people to buy stash tabs for shit that will never get sold) When you have a dumpster league like standard , when characters get merged back to standard the upgrades and higher tier gear are all beyond reach even with reasonable effort. having a shop will will spread the currency among the average players, make use of those gear before their prices are driven down by even more dumping. Prices of gear will be driven down because standard is the dumpster league. Having A shop will make upgrade worthy items get sold and be used before their prices are driven down , which will in turn encourage players to keep playing their character after the league has ended. Mind you this is only for the standard League. All new leagues should never have this feature which will keep in line with the whole trading Feel-goodness. My fears for an auction house/otherwise implemented in-game trading system?
Mostly, that it'll never show up. That way, players like myself who're on the casual end and have not/cannot sink thousands of hours into Path of Exile will continue to be unable to obtain anything but rudimentary self-found gear, because Poe.trade is an obnoxious mess plagued with hundreds of listings that don't matter because ninety-nine out of a hundred people trying to sell whatever it is you want to buy are NEVER FREAKING ONLINE. The ones that are online are, of course, the people selling whatever you're looking at for twelve times the price of literally everyone else offering that item. And furthermore, the one time in a million a dirty-scrub casual finds something worth selling (I have a Taste of Hate that could potentially fund my next six builds, if I'm careful with the proceeds), they have no way of selling it because again - poe.trade is an obnoxious mess that makes it irritatingly difficult to set up a listing, and when you do figure it out, once again...nobody who actually wants to buy whatever it is you want to sell is online. You are obligated to be online, in-game, and available 24/7 if you want to sell that item before the heat death of the universe, because maybe one player in a hundred on PoE actually knows about poe.trade in the first place, and one in a hundred of those actually use it. I get that a lot of players really like the Wonder Bazaar that is current-day PoE trading, to the point where I've seen several folks claim that managing their shops is their primary Fun in PoE. That's awesome. Unfortunately, regular-schmoe-with-job guys like me, whose Primary Fun in PoE is figuring out interesting character builds to try, are left utterly unable to obtain even the most basic build-altering or build-enabling items because the only resource I have to do it with is dropped chaos and the terrifyingly overpriced 24/7 'Streaming Guy' sellers. Now sure, I'm not likely the majority case...but then again, some sort of in-game auction/trading system wouldn't be such a persistent concern if there wasn't a sizable chunk of players who despises the Wonder Bazaar as much as I do. For the love of all things dark and unholy...at LEAST let me flag someone in-game, leave a message for them even if they're offline that shows up in an in-game mailbox somewhere, letting them know that somebody wants to buy their freaking stuff. Yes yes yes, you can then proceed to haggle and drive up the price of your freaking stuff to an unrealistic extent, and guys like me will either get swindled to the point of quitting the game or just walk away entirely...but at least I'll be able to fraggin' try. Go watch/play Guild Wars 2. Note the in-game mail/messaging system. IMPLEMENT THE #&%^ OUT OF IT. Have poe.trade point to that in-game mail system instead of whatever blackened, grasping void its current PM system points to. Problem at least 50% solved. Can we at least think about it? She/Her

I think AH will make the game too easy, people will get GG items much easier increasing boredom since for the majority of players across many genres of games, when content is too easy because good items too easy to acquire, they feel more bored as well.
A big reward of playing for me is that it is not easy to find or craft GG items and trading involves interacting with other players, so they may want a price higher than you can afford or you may want to sell an item for more than people are willing to buy for, so there is a large risk vs reward, do you continue waiting for someone to buy at your price or do you lower your price to sell faster, do you wait to find someone selling at a low price or do you buy at the higher price now. A big part of my enjoyment comes from all these types of risk vs reward decisions I need to make. "Come along fool, a direct hit to the senses will leave you disconnected."

" I could live with a mailbox. One that doesn´t allow sending items, but allows people to tell guys they want some items off a shop. I also could live with a 10 slot 24h-shop in hideouts. You can put 10 items of your stash in that shop-npc. People can visit your hideout and buy/bid at those items. Would be kinda fun ;) Like shopping actually ;) Last edited by camar1s#6601 on Dec 1, 2015, 12:21:05 PM

People put items for sale on the party board.
Why not just have a bigger board, so players could list 5-10 items for sale, instead of 1-2 Problem solved. GGG have stated there is no auction house and I doubt there ever will be, so fears of one is ridicule /thread |

There is no real argument against having an AH or player shop or open stash as they are the same thing, in a game that is fundamentally about the acquisition of items.
The situation we have at the moment is that its vastly easier to sell(still i massive pain in the arse) than it is to buy meaning that its a perfect set up for flippers. Add to this that almost no-one has even a basic idea of what some-thing is worth and on top of that there is no accepted currency to even buy items with even if you could agree on a price!! and you have a completely broken system where a select cadre of players totally monopolise the economy an example of this would be top tier items selling for the kind of price that would be impossible to farm in an entire life time. The only "gameplay" an Inclusive trading system would hurt are players who only trade to get rich and frankly there are other games that suit that play style better. If I where GGG I would have player shops with a maximum number of items at fixed prices that functioned exactly like vendors that you could interact with through the notice board and then i would have GGG charge money for each server side shop. They are massively unlikely to do this so personally the only viable option for me is to go self found and completely ignore all trading which is not something a want to do but something i feel is the only reasonable option. The ensuing complete market saturation of items that aren't absolute BiS. Which would result in only the best possible items being sellable.
Everyone likes to complain that trading isn't worth their time in the current state, but having the instant functionality of an AH means that every one of those people who aren't currently saturating the market are going to start contributing. Every item becomes less valuable for each competing item posted, this is pretty common sense. But the very same people whining about trade would be the same ones complaining that nothing sells if we were to get automated trade, I'd bet on it. Oh, and bots. IGN: Smegmazoid

Leveling process gets trivialized. Previously meta items like Tabula which often get used all the way through to level 70 will be replaced by perfectly rolled 4 links every 5-10 levels the cost of an alt orb each.
Items will lose value. Many mid tier items end up getting vendored because it's difficult to sell them on the market. With an AH this problem goes away and with every Joe, Dick, and Nancy posting their mid tier items on the AH it will drive overall prices down reducing the profits for those who were initially willing to take the effort to play the market. With items losing value, it will no longer be worth posting many of the items that you may have sold previously because only the best items will sell. The frequency that you find rares worth selling will drop significantly as a result. Reduced player interaction. Currently trading is often a bit of a barter between players. AH reduces their required interaction significantly, and will possibly even sell items while players are not online. Standardizes currency. Players with a good grasp on the market know that orb prices vary day to day, AH would likely drive down that variance and start pushing players even more heavily into standard currency trades (IE: exalts and chaos) and reduce the value of alternative currency slightly. To all the people saying reduced player interaction:
"Hi, I would like to buy..." "my ho" "ty" "ty" Help me find the player interaction because I don't see it... |

" You may not, but I often chat with people I buy/sell from. I've made a few friends this way, was given a new build which I'm planning on using next season. Not to mention haggling and offering alternate currencies or items for a piece of gear. You can't do something like that through your typical auction house. Every Saturday = National Booze n Poe Day
