" That sounds a tad naive. I have a lot of free time, so be thankful i'm not an evil greedy trade overlord. I am fairly confident there would be people up for the task though if allowed and sanctioned by GGG. Peace, -Boem- edit : that was not a reference to you I_NO , just a general statement that "if possible" people would indeed abuse the name and shame. And damage done to a persona in such a volatile environment will rarely be undone. I would point to a certain arpg fan but eh.... " I liked the suggestion for Trade Feedback options mentioned in the Reddit thread, but even that can be botted etc. I guess the question is, "is a half-assed abusable system better than no system?" and that is probably a subjective one. For those people who spend a lot of time trading, or have been burned through trading issues or "scams", they are probably more in favour of it. Chris also said in that thread that the game is top priority, not the forums. That is valid to an extent, but they should have different teams dedicated to them. Customer Support is being paid primarily for that reason, to make customer engagement points both within and external to the game a more positive experience. Chris is lead designer, his priority should always be the ingame experience, but if you're investing resources into a customer support team, you should be getting measurable results out of it. == Officially Retired 27/02/2019 ==

^Your dealing with subjective truths, so they cannot be measured against a standard. Thus lead to subjective sanctioning, nobody would be better of if that's the case.
People would multi account to publicly defame People would fake screenshots and evidence if they had the time and it would yield them a positive out-come People with a lot of traction and charisma would involve their community backing to support a defamation. This has happened in the past and it destroyed a certain users credibility entirely beyond repair, while evidence was extremely poor and lacking. Chris and GGG's stance is entirely correct and the most cost-efficient route to undertake. There is not a single system they could implement that would not be abused. Peace, -Boem- edit : hmm saying there is "not a single system" might be a tad over the top, but if there is a functioning system i would imagine it being implemented already, suggested at least once or simply be common knowledge given the nature of these games and the existence of many platforms like it. Chris and GGGs stance is undermined by legitimising Reddit through posting and support, where those actions can (and do) take place.
It is a shitty situation, I don't see an elegant solution. == Officially Retired 27/02/2019 ==

You know my view on that subject, i appreciate consistency and like you say, currently there is none.
Either they should make totally anonymous profiles to visit reddit. Or they should endorse it on the main web-site as-well. A middle rout doesn't seem like an option, since that's what we currently have and the goal eludes me. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" Nerfing reddit seems unfair, when they should really be buffing and balancing the main forums :) I'm just trying to picture how it would all work, and the only thing I can think of requires significant active and transparent moderation here in the official forums with an accompanying loosen of some of rules. I'm guessing that is a route they are looking to go down, so we'll see how it works out. For example, I really like that Tom was transparent in posting the reason for the deletion of the other thread (made me feel like a little less of a piece of shit as well). But, at the same time, the fact that the VP thread has been posted from SUPPORT is not encouraging, because it is the human element that Tom displayed which forms strong relationships with the playerbase (which is a key thing in reddit/forum feedback), where posters feel comfortable addressing the devs by name, and can often get a response if their query/post is valuable or useful. Sigh. More rambling. I really need to get a fucking real hobby, or some friends or something. Does anyone knit? Is it fun? == Officially Retired 27/02/2019 == Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years. They could add a screenshot function to the game that sends the SS directly to the GGG servers so they can't be modified. Maybe limit # of SS per account stored that way so people don't overload them. Old screenies would be deleted on uploading a new one once you're at cap.
"Verified" screenshots taken this way could be considered hard proof of shenanigans. |
