POE is already Pay to Win. What can/should GGG do?
It is well known that at certain sites, one can purchase credits with real money and then use those credits to trade for items inside POE, including of course valuable POE currency items like Exalted Orbs. Some of these sites are popular and have active POE trading threads.
This effectively means anyone can use real money to buy currency items to trade on GGG forums. I believe that officially GGG have said that using these types of sites may lead to a ban but in reality there is little they can do to stop it. Many on these forums strongly believe that pay to win (or P2W) will destroy the game, is the next thing to the devil etc etc. I am not debating this, merely pointing out that the cat is out the bag. We can, right now use real money to get the best equipment in the game. This is P2W and it is happening right now. Unfortunately GGG gets no benefit from this. I would personally like to see them get monetary rewards and benefit from the economy of their own game, rather than some random 3rd party site. This means GGG making available as Micro-transactions things like Exalted Orbs. - Should they do this? - How would you feel if they did, considering this is already happening? - Should they do nothing, as in, we all pretend everything is ok and continue on as if P2W doesn't exist, or it is ok as long as GGG don't officially support it? === Last edited by pneuma#0134 on Feb 12, 2013, 9:29:38 AM

So, what you are saying is.
EVERY SINGLE GAME OUT THERE IS P2W! All games have some kind of "place" where u can buy things for real money. it does not make it leagal. I dont se what your post is all about? |

That isn't pay to win, that's cheating and breaking the rules. Pay to win is when you put items behind a paywall that can't be acquired in game otherwise.

" No. No they shouldn't. If they did, it wouldn't make the problem any better- it would just put them in direct competition with the people who are already selling currency, which would just make them lower their prices to undercut them. What they are doing now (as far as I know) is banning accounts that can be linked to the selling of in-game currency for money, and that is what they should continue to do. Ok, so judging from the answers so far I can say that Pay to Win is okay, just as long as GGG don't get the benefit?
Or are we saying something else like P2W is here is going to happen, we just don't want GGG to participate? Last edited by Alienchild#1272 on Feb 12, 2013, 8:55:36 AM

No, the point is GGG look down on pay to win. They will fight against it.
If GGG chickens made an action RPG, what would it be called? Path of Eggxile, a Peck 'n' Slash RPG.
Why was the helmet spluttering? It was a coif. |
