Back from Diablo III, the truth in one TLDR post

Social pressure pushed me away from PoE and pulled me into Diablo III.
I wanted to play with the "bros" who played PoE once til about level 16 and "didn't like it because it's not diablo".

And while I am not super l33t at PoE I have done my fair share of climbing in the top 10% of the season HC ladder almost every race before inevitably dying to reflect very early in the race.

I played Diablo as a "seasonal" character and grew to be in the top 10% but here is where the story twists. I did it in about 2 weeks of semi-casual play. Then I started to realize just how absolutely garbage D3 is and it's purpose - sell a shitty game to casual players that like oversize explosions, zero meta and loot handed to them just about every other minute.

So when someone asks you the difference between D3 and PoE here is the shortlist that I compiled as the door hit me on the way out.

- pathing and movement is not precise, it's garbage
- explosion and aoe effects consume so much of a screen that you literally have to go a screen away to escape the entire ground being covered with crappy AOE animations - how is that fun?
- People play the corners of the screens, there is even a gem that rewards it? Really?!
- Graphics, initially I was impressed but then I did a side by side of d2, d3 and PoE and realized that they had converted a dark and evil mood to Toy Story.
- Builds, there are no builds, if you don't run the min/max build with whatever the min/max armor set is, well you will absolutely suck and people will laugh at you.
- Unlimited willy-nilly crafting. Don't have a great piece of armor - MAKE IT ONE at almost no expense! Don't have a socket in your weapon, there's loot for that!
- "Rifts" or Stolen PoE Maps, literally the same exact set of monsters with more hp / attack speed. No unique modifiers.
- Here is where it get's downright sad. Wonder how you hit #1 on the ladder clearing the highest greater rifts? The answer may surprise you - you don't clear content or the entire map, you build your character to kill white mobs, skip elite / magic packs and go as fast as you can killing trash mobs.
That was for me the last straw.

I'm glad to be back, glad to support a game which supports the concept of diversity, complexity and skill and who has far more stable servers than a multibillion dollar company.

Hats off to you guys and here comes my money, forgive me for leaving in the first place.

It's ok to like different games.

Also note that both games offer something a bit different to each other, some good and bad things.

Only thing I like better is infinite difficulty rifts. Largely non gated. Basically you go until you hit a brick wall and everyone will hit it eventually.

Here difficulty stops at uber. See my shop for all this shit I got off her. And you need to farm literally 1600 corrupted area to get one chance at her.

1/40 chance of hardest to find sac midnight drop from corrupted area
1/40 chance reg atziri will drop rarest hope

40 x 40 = 1600

ridiculous. you spend 99% of this games time farming easy shit.

really PoE has a shit end game.

But process and game from A-Y is far superior

I like D3 for what it is. I played the latest season. It was fun for a while, hell still is time from time, but it really is nothing compared to PoE.
I love pie.
The thing about PoE is that I always come back when there's new content. Last time I played D3 was at RoS launch and never came back once.

3 things made me come to POE from D3!

1. Difficulty!
Once the patch come out with Greater Rifts while it was very fun at first to try and push leader boards
The rest of the game become a joke! I mean T6 the hardest Difficulty Become speed runs and then lvling a new character become 5-10 mins with a friend to turn around and be running T6 with a few hours!
Gear literately just fell out of the sky and those gems is the main reason why! But they just added something in that if you slotted all 3 slots with a good combination of those gems you could potentially double your DPS output for GRs and thats how you also lvled them up yet absolutely no change to the difficulty... even to this day! There is NO lvling exp in D3 at all anymore! They might as well remove the whole campaign or story mode or whatever! No one has touched The story in years! Even in the seasons where you start fresh!

2. Their Stash!
Once i seen the lead developer they have now say in a Q&A when asked about our stash regarding its size his answer was... oh if we give you more space you will just ask for more!
Are you kidding dude? At that point i had been trashing all the other sets i could try out on any of the class's even with amazing once in a lifetime rolls... if it didn't go to my Barbarian i had to trash it!
I barely had room for that one class let alone 6! When that dude said that that was the nail in the coffin for me!

3. The Community!
By far THE MOST toxic of communities from WOW to D3! (Although i hear that LOL can give them both a run for their money) From scam artist to elitist cussing you like a dog if you are in the the raidcall shit or vent! The community seemed like a bunch of kids yet nearly 3/4 of them CLAIMED they were adults!

Its just 2 different games entirely from the way they are handled to the way you have to play the game!
D3 feels like playing a kids games and POE feel like playing an Adults game!
At least from what i had Experienced in D3 anyway! Then again WOW before it probably didn't help in my opinion of Blizz and its community as a whole at all by then!
There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation.
The former is Wisdom, the latter is Fear.

@OP - Sorry you found elements of D3 that pushed you away. I do hope PoE provides you with an enjoyable experience. I look forward to seeing you in Wraeclast.

Any thoughts on what PoE should do to avoid the problems you noted in D3?
