Grim Dawn or Path of Exile?

one of the stupidest threads I've saw here. There's just no point in it. Comparing basically an MMO game to a single player game.

Grim Dawn:
5. Simplistic potion system. Life or mana potions only and they restore quite a bit.
6. Skill points can be easily and cheaply refunded, but only to a certain point, and only some points can be refunded. Points into skills can be refunded, but points into a "class bar" cannot.
7. Block is an option for a major defense but only for one class type.

Few clarifications on these points:

5: You have the classic health/mana potion but later on can acquire crafting recipes via drops or quests that can allow you to create other potions. http://gracefuldusk.appspot.com/items/Consumables/

6: Though you can't take back points from the Mastery Bar, eventually at high levels most characters if not all will max both bars for the stats that come with them.

7: You can use a shield with any mastery. One mastery excels more in their usage but with items/affixes you can do so with any other mastery as well.

I liked Titan Quest!
First game to introduce that kind of intelligent dual classing.
It had a lot of variety, both in skills and items.
And a very nice atmosphere. No classic dark theme, but a beautifull ancient world.
Don't know why it never became a big hit... .

I believe the issue was both Diablo 2 still being highly played while also some pirates hacked the demo for Titan Quest which had a few issues and when people say these "flaws" the game got some backlash. Also I think the advertising for the game wasn't done very well.

Not really. At least when I tried it gameplay was better than PoE, as you can have a variety of different skills, not just 1 attack skill like 99% PoE builds have. Not being limited by gem slots (in aura builds you often hardly have any left) and only 8 hotkey (7 actually) slots for skills feels great.

You actually can have up to 24 keyable buttons since you have 2 skill bars (Y) and also weapon switch. 2 are taken up by the potions of course. Usually the second skill bar I put in the auras/buffs or potions that last for a duration. That and some pets.

thing is, D2 was a game changer in regards to online play in ARPGs. its tough as fuck to create a 'hit' (ie sell units) with a single player-only ARPG game nowadays, sadly enough.

That is indeed the case although I believe Torchlight 2 did quite well but I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the developers who created that game giving it a lot of credibility. Grim Dawn does have multiplayer btw.

Oh, system-wise, absolutely. And that's another part of the problem: we can still play Titty Quest. So why switch to GD?

Although I did play Titan Quest before Grim Dawn I find it difficult to go back to the game due to how mechanically different Grim Dawn is. I have gone back once to try out Soul Vizier mod which was rather fun. For me though TQ is just super long and creating new characters can feel really tedious due to the slower pace and linearity of the game.

Grim Dawn will be adding a lot more mechanics/features and the level design is more transitional leaving lots of room for expansions when it comes to diversifying the environments. Just like with Titan Quest I can't wait to see what people will do when it comes to modding the game as the modding tools have a lot more added and are vastly improved. Faction system, survival mode, and quest options can add a lot to a player who wants to create their own world.

Plus TQ no longer has support even though Nordic Games owns the IP and apparently contacted the main dev of Grim Dawn to see if he was interested in making a TQ2. Grim Dawn owns the engine used in TQ and will get 1 guaranteed expansion. TQ won't get any more updates while GD that is always a possibility and modding will greatly expand the game as well.

It's not known as Grim Yawn for nothing, sure PoE has a multitude of flaws but at least you can stay awake more than 10 minutes while playing it.

Funny enough that the phrase "Grim Yawn" came from Kripparian's twitch chat while he was playing the game awhile ago. I find it boring to watch his videos since he doesn't interact with the people while he is streaming (unlike someone like ZiggyD). Plus he continued to play the game for some time and interviewed the lead dev for Grim Dawn. In any case people have their own expectations of a game so yea some may find GD to be boring - even though it isn't finished and a lot of features aren't yet added (Devotion/2 more difficulties/Act 3 part 3, Act 4, Legendary items, Faction System, etc...).

So we'll see.

I kinda dislike these game vs game threads since it goes against the idea that a player can enjoy both of the games. I might eventually create a thread just to give people a heads up when it comes to the progress of the game and if they have any questions.

Titty Quest still rocks. So many innovations. So much flexibility. Excellent usage of pseudo-history as you move, literally, from the Ancient World of the West to the Ancient World of the East.

Grim Dawn is just bland by comparison.

You say bland, I say subtle. :-)

I think Grim Dawn is already so much more than TQ and they still arent quite finished yet. I also think it's more fun to play that PoE and there is only one difficulty out of so far, should be even better when they add them and some other things not disclosed yet...

You might want to check out this thread to see what they have added since you last played. Grim Misadventure #62: A Look Back at 2014. And they have added Factions and maybe more since that update too.

There is also the Game Guide, has a lot of nice info. New people to the game should read it...or anyone that hasnt seen it should read it.
Ascension tied to Lab is the worst thing GGG has done...apart from GGG's philosophy on Trading. Oh and Gambling Loot boxes. And selling out to tencent.

I used to love GGG. I supported to ensure GGG remained independent, now I just wish I could get my money back. -_-

Poe still better =))
Poe veteran! Have been here sense November 2010.
I prefer Path of Exile, but Grim Dawn looks interesting so I might check it out when its actually released.
Grim Dawn does look very interesting and I've added it to my wishlist. But why the hell would you buy an EA game? Get burnt out on it long before it's even finished - what's the point of that?

Not to mention it gives the devs less incentive to ever finish their game, since the core playerbase has already bought it.

PoE is the best ARPG since D2, no question. So Grim Dawn would have to be something pretty special to top it. Seems like you picked all the bad points/things you dislike about PoE to use as a comparison.

I mean, I'm sure it's a perfectly fine ARPG, but after some of the things PoE brought to the table

IMHO POE brought nothing new to the table

What POE did that made it awesome is that it brought all the goods of other games and managed to make them work in symbiosis , which is a feat

I'd like to think this thread has moved far beyond the terrible OP.

Even if the OP's comparaison itself is biased, all his points about POE are true and its that truth that enflame the fanboys
ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it

GD looks like runescape on steroids.

Also looks clunky as hell, for that shit to ever topple POE it would need some over the top unique features.

How is this even debatable, gtfo.
