GGG can not make a league for every single thing people want in the game!
Ofcourse im also sure that after the act 4 drop they may put more priority into the paid leagues Chris Wilson has talked about will be a part of the game at some point! At which then everyone can have whatever kinda Leagues they want! You just have to pay for them! Threads like this one and the ones for SFL both have been made so many times im sure its one of the next features they will be adding as soon as they can especially now that they have an idea of just how many people are interested in having all kinds of different crazy leagues which would be the point of paid leagues! So i guess you guys atleast have that! There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation.

I've only read a few posts, but I honestly don't feel like I need to read every statement to understand what is going on with this thread.
Some things to consider: This game considers itself hardcore -- let that set in for a minute. The appeal isn't to all gamers, but to gamers that actually want a risk/reward ratio. For those that want even more challenge, they can play in the hardcore league -- which I think is strictly for masochists. This game tries to challenge any build players can come up with -- this is important, because if I made a build today that could trivialize everything, and it became popular it'd be nerfed into the ground tomorrow. Either that or the game would become so much harder to balance against my build that any less optimal builds would pretty much die out. Being level 95 on my primary standard character, I can understand that death penalties are pretty harsh. I don't think they need to be any more or less harsh. The fact that they are there is enough. One death for me is about 4-5 hours of solid grinding, this is on 74+ maps. So yeah, it hurts, but I still play hard maps. If I didn't, I'd just get bored. If you're just trying to hit level 100, you should do what the other blowhards do, buy some level 78 maps, and join a pack size + magic monster rotation. Your map pool is stretched by folks that all want to do 78 maps, and you're always doing easy maps with high xp returns. It'll just be boring. |

Removing the death penalty would be a horrible idea. People would all be running around with glass cannon builds because hey.. who cares if I die?
Also I have to disagree with OP about how this mechanic has cost PoE players. There might have been a few (I remember one very particular case from last week who kept complaining that he couldn't level up because "I only die a few times every map"), but I'm pretty sure removing such a core mechanic would severely damage or even kill PoE. Also imho OP's example about dwindling numbers on Steam is because so many people are unlinking their accounts from it because it is annoying and unpractical. Edit: Rewarding people for not dying is a terrible idea aswell. It's the same thing on the opposite side. Run around with a tank -> more XP and drops? Really bad idea. " Here's the thing... without a death consequence there will be very little excitement or sense of accomplishment and there will be practically no challenges to overcome. The game would be very MEH. For my most recent example: running with a friend last night in Academy we hit the boss room and I decide (knowing it would be risky) to hit Vaal cyclone. Oops, turns out I wasn't quite strong enough for that and actually died. Pissed me off a little but I knew it was my own fault. Also in that map we ran into Zana and she sent us to Crematorium. Now I've read about crematorium boss and told my buddy I planned to skip that boss. Well we sort of lost track of how many levels we had descended and before you know it, we're at the boss and he's dead from her very nasty firestorm. I ran around the room killing adds and dodging storms while doing a little damage to the boss here and there while mostly keeping some distance. Finally when she was low I popped my last ruby flask charge and went for the kill. Buddy says GJ, he was watching from the resurrect screen. Man that felt awesome and my heart was pounding through the whole fight! Point of the story is, with no consequense there would be no feelings of frustration or anger from the death I had. The death penalty wouldn't be so bad if EVERY death was controllable. Desync deaths (and deaths in general) forced me away from this game two years ago, and might just do so again. I only enjoy playing my Duelist, but melee requires so much more effort to get the same rewards as everyone else.

Yes for the love of God please remove this stupid toxic death penalty!!! For softcore players this is absolutely unnecessary and retarded honestly. Let players play hardcore if they get off on a death penalty. It only pisses me off and keeps me from playing any character past level 85. Please GGG remove that archeaic system.
