Rain and Load Times

Lol AFAIK the problem with rain is not load times, but terrible FPS drops due to crap optimized engine.

Useless post ?

They didn't test particles effects and all that anyway, your rant is irrelevant here. They tested the load times of the zones. I'm pretty sure the GPU/integrated graphics has little to do with those.

the rain is a particle effect, it is off by default when particles are disabled.

You could ahve said that a lot nicer, but oh well, disrespect towards a game dev isnt anything new on this forum.

Dear Chris, tests shouldnt be conducted on both ends, high and low and at least 2 or better yet, 3 different PC specs. That way you can determine if your test is actually proof of what youre trying to point out or if its biased because you only used one PC spec.

I got 8 gig RAM, an AMD FX 4100 Quad core Processor and some GTX 550 card.

i don't kiss butt over an issue that's been ongoing for the entire existence of the game and was solved in a few days by some kid.

Solved by a kid and which might not even be included in the QOL updates. Since they're talking about lowering the settings, rather than just allow us to turn off particles/rain.
Always their "vision" getting in the way of good gameplay.
Vote +1 to change Path of Exile to Path of Nerfs.
We hate to say, but ProjectPT was right.

If it's not the rain then we need to find the other common factor that only Docks, Barracks, Gardens, RainyCrossroads and Upper Sceptre share.

Has anyone noticed that the Crossroads loading goes away during the Darkness? Initial Crossroads loadtimes for me were 45 seconds down to 10 seconds(About 10 instances here and further on), then 30 seconds down to 10 seconds later in the day. Break the Seal and the rain goes away. Next day, so cold cache, 10 second initial load down to 3, later in the day 5 seconds down to near instant. Kill Vaal, come back next day and it's back to 40 second loadings.

So it might not be rain. But rain certainly shows up in only the slowest of zones.

For reference, Lunaris 3, Solaris 2, Marketplace and all the other big but not raining zones take 10 seconds to load cold, usually 2-5 seconds once the game is going.

so few smart ones around, why everyone else so dumb and stubborn? I did exactly that and found that common factor, reported to GGG by e-mail but they disregard it or they are throwing dust in our eyes.

Russians already tried to disable rain on some occasions and parades so i guess people will always blame on rain for something bad :)

I think that same forum post you are talking encouraged me to do some testing on rain. And disabling rain does NOT reduce loading times into previously rainy locations.
Playing with 70-80ms ping, which is causing long loading between zones,
resulting in 2-4 minutes disadvantage in 1 hour races.
(I was wrong, it wasn't a ping issue but something else on GGG side)
Well.

I think we can see why the Devs don't post on the forum very often :)

Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years.

Best of luck in the future!

We should have invite only threads on the forum. That way we could have serious talks like adults in those threads with devs, this thread is just filled with accusation, rude behavior and shit posting.
I have observed that rain has a significant effect on load times. Loading Shipyard or Courtyard map takes me 30-60 sec (compared to normal maps which are around 10-15sec). The loadtime on maps with rain is often even so bad that I get a disconnect due to "timeout" error (this has ever only occured on rain maps).
I do not know why rain affects the load time, howcer I suspect it to be an issue with sound. SotV already showed that sound can have noticeable impact on load times when you were able to tell whether your docks instance has a corrupted zone by observing the loading time (in my case I didn't even need a metronome for this, since the difference was quite noticable). I have a friend who suffers from similar issues and he claims to have solved it by using the -nosound option. For me however -nosound is not an option, since I mostly play poe at late times when I'm sleepy and therefore heavily rely on sound cues (e.g. IC triggering, currency drop, pot usage, etc.).
So I really hope that you will further look into this topic.

I've set up a post with multiple straw polls called "Which aspects of the game have the heaviest impact on your PC / laptop?" covering this issue where you can vote and give GGG better feedback.

I'm all for talking like adults, but it would seem that's a matter of opinion. Wise men have the ability to learn from stern rebuttals and frankly quite a few people are more than just a little bit saucy right now.

While the devs are tinkering with testing that has already been isolated and solved, it shows the lack of consideration for the equipment used by those with issues. There are arguments about people using toasters, but funny enough those same 'toasters' run graphically equivalent games with no problem.

The key to being a successful author is to put yourself into the shoes of your readers, you can change author out for many words or ideas, even developing games. It's a very obvious concept, there are plenty of excellent teachings as to why that makes the author successful so goggle if needed. instead of hoping for me to elaborate.

As an adult I am of the very ingrained belief that you don't waste someone's time by sugarcoating your words or beating around the bush... to some being blunt is offensive, but to others that's just too darn bad.

Being blunt is effective and cuts to the point... and currently the point is while they are fiddling around with an issue that has already been isolated, and solved, while saying that they can see no issue... well that's just a bunch of rubbish.

As it currently stands, every single QoL of life hack is back online in addition to the typical economy hacks that were only brushed aside for a couple of days... but here's the cute thing that's making everyone saucy.

You want those QoL tools that make the game playable in HC mode? Now you got to pay a hacker for them.... You don't have to pay a hacker for the economy destroying hacks, those are free to use and are currently undetectable despite the anti-cheat implemented just a short time ago.

So while the problem is being 'fiddled' with, the QoL fixes are now for sale to some 3rd party who has worked around the Anti-cheat...

It's more than a little frustrating... and flat out sad that the issue hasn't been 'discovered'... when it's been discovered thousands of times and already turned people away from the game. It's been discovered, and was 80% fixed, which is now a fix that requires payment to some unknown 3rd party.

It's extremely frustrating, because now all the anti-cheat programing has effectually done, is line the pockets of some code-writter that nobody even knows about.

So my adult side, is saucy. I don't care to hack the games I play, unless I'm playing an emulator of games I beat the crap out of as a kid... that stuff's kinda funny to me. I certainly don't like the idea of people getting rich off of the fact that the devs here have been skirting an issue...

I can barely stand the fact that the anti-cheat is now 100% worthless, because I imagine the devs spent some money to get it put together.

There are a lot of issues I'm a little bit saucy about, but understanding the cause of the QoL problems is the very KEY to reproducing them.
