risk/reward isn't coming. ever. [I give up]

/me shrugs shoulders

The difficulties of solo self found, (non-HC), doesn't begin until around lvl90 now.

Infact this current iteration of the game is by far the easiest, in terms of progression, that has been released. The most difficult content you come across is a friggen strongbox.

OB: BazzVone - 83 Dual Spork Totem Templar /w CI and minions
CB: BazzVfourteen - 80 Dual Spork Totem Templar /w CI
CB: BazzVtwo - 73 Dual Spork Totem/LS Templar
CB: BazzVseven - 76 Lightning Strike Mara
CB: BazzVfive - 78 Lightning Strike Mara

1) even if it's not true, I can say from almost two years of experience that from a player's point of view, it seems like your odds of dropping that Kaom's Heart from killing Turbo Palace Dominus, equal your odds of dropping it from a random Docks barrel.
and that just isn't right.

Yeah, it just isn't right.
Because Dominus has probably like 1000x times the chance of dropping it.
But since you are rather opening 1000 barrels in Docks instead of killing him once, you feel it's "equal". It's not.

in practice, you are very likely to lose your damned mind, while your kids grow up and have your grandkids - before any of that happens.

In practice, it takes a couple of hours to get a full Atziri set.
Not years, not generations.
It's still stupid and it's still a weird way to gate content, but it's not as reidiculous as you make it sound.

"kill Atziri on a budget"? Self-Found have no "budget"...
just wake up and smell the roses, for fuck's sake.

If only one day you would realize that "Self found = budget build".
A "cheap build" is "cheap" because the stuff you need for it is so common you most likely find it on your own.
Just to give you one example:
Spoiler

Create a witch. Make a build that takes all life nodes and all aura nodes in the area.
Equip a wand, ideally with added crit (and mastercraft attackspeed on it).
Find a 4L item where you put Power Siphon, LMP, WED, Chain.
Add Wrath, Anger, Herald of Ice, Herald of Thunder, Clarity.
Get your resists capped. With help of masters.

"Atziri killer selffound build" done, and it's only one in a sea of endless possibilities.

"

3) are you really so unable to grasp the difference between "collect 100 flowers and 5 crystals, then cook on the working bench using an Enchanted Pot", and "that'll be 1 Exalt. pure"?

90% of recipes don't require Exalts.
Only the most powerful ones do.
Is it so wrong that a powerful recipe requires a rare ingredient? No!
It's again, the same as in most other games with Crafting. If you want to craft a "flaming sword of owning mankind", you better be prepared for some rough requirements.

And exalted orbs do drop, rarely, but frequently.
I find about two of them per 100 hours of gameplay.

So if I wanted, I could level my Elreon to 8 and use that recipe, selffound.
(not too interested in both, but I could)

I think Mirrors can be left without a recipe. they aren't required for anything but mirroring - which is pure economy since self-found are unlikely to mirror anything they already own.

but I do want all orbs to have recipes, otherwise Master Crafting still isn't really crafting.
and the reason it's not crafting is it still forces you to trade: e.g Elreon wants 1 Exalted Orb for his sweet Meta Mod, and you have a couple stacks of Chaos Orbs from Chaos Recipe and drops - so you still need to find another player to convert those Chaos into the desired Exalt.
or you can randomly drop an Exalt ... which probably will happen somewhere in the next 2 years, or the next 5 minutes, depending on RNG.

as for tracking trades and "scamming this" in new leagues, I didn't understand what you mean, and I'm sure GGG cannot possibly track every single trade transaction even if they wanted to.

I kinda wish i can use common orb like chaos/alc for high tier crafting. Like change 1 Exalted Orb ->
50 chaos or Chaos + Alc

For one, you are not "forced" to "convert those Chaos into the desired Exalt".

For another, this may increased the demand of alc or chaos in the market. And, people maybe more willing to trade their Ex.

now that's just a filthy, disgusting lie.

I can show you all the gear I ever dropped in almost two years of Path Of Exile - that I bothered keeping and using - and I assure you most of it came from anything but "harder maps".
probably vast majority.

the recent ones - 2 six-links and 1 Tabula Rasa - were Blue Shore, Inner Treasure from a blue Strongbox in a White Bog, and some map that was actually yellow, but was also below level 70 and didn't have any of the crazy-tier mods like half/no-regen or extra boss/mob damage or reflect.
or was it just a "items are fully linked" box in a white Dried Lake? not sure.

even the old "exalts from Ledge barrels" "joke", is a proven reality for me.
.....

and even if we assumed what you said was true, how about the content before maps? can you progress through that solo self-found, and get your fair chances at steady upgrades through beating increasingly tougher content? or do you simply consider anything before "end-game" as not being part of the game? 9 acts of content, across 3 difficulties?

PoE has none of that.
don't bullshit me, Slayer.
I've been here long enough.

and I'm not saying there should be zero chance to drop Exalts from barrels or a good item from a white skelly in a white 66 map or Normal Ledge.
I am saying the chance to do so from a crazy fucking double boss with -max resistances and "players take +9001% damage as all elements combined" in a level 9001 Vaal Temple, should be a heck of a lot higher. so high, you'd actually consider doing that insane crazy map, rather than fucking brainlessly farm Docks, Fellshrine, Sceptre or Lunaris with your level 90 char, because RNG screwed you out of maps again.

oh, and you actually got to have a level 90 char because you traded.
otherwise, you were putting the same insane amounts of half a dozen thousand hours of your life into Path Of Exile, beating gear-check after gear-check with dumb brute-forcing of RNG, like Anuhart is doing and Morbo was doing until he got fed up and started trading.
that's +1 more, to GGG's "trade or get the fuck out" design.
cheers, Mr. Wilson.

Gear checks lol. Someone just beat atziri with EB and CI. Watch the video, it's awesome.

Hell, I'll even do you one better. I will not trade once next league. I will *guarantee* you I make it past 90.

Numbers don't lie. Harder maps = more loot = more chances to drop good gear = better gear on average. Most of your gear came from lower content because you spent 99% of your time there.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
Well I dont drop anything noteworthy anywhere so thank god for trade. Selling 1alc-30C at time adds up. I'm not complaining just saying the only thing I noticed is more 6S items at high maps.
Git R Dun!

Also in low maps. And 66 maps drop rate in 66 maps is just insane(ly high) compared to times before FM.
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.

you are so used to trade, you don't even understand "not trading", and yet that doesn't stop you from writing statements that are just insulting.

See, here's your problem. You don't understand that PoE was never meant to be a single player game. It has no offline / single player mode. Trading and all is meant to be a part of the game. The point is, you're playing the game WRONG, simple as that, and still complain and want changes even though things are way better off than what you make them be, as long as you use the features GGG has provided you. Like the option to trade.

"Self-Found" is not the way you're supposed to play this game. It's an interesting challenge, I'll give it that, but don't come cry and bitch on the forums if your wrong way to play the game isn't successful.

The fact that there is no offline/singleplayer mode or possibility to mod the game does not mean ggg wants to exclude the single player/self found playstyles. Think about the way the business model works, and about cheating for a second. I am NOT wrong for playing the way i enjoy more, even if i think the balancing sucks. Playing with random strangers and trying to trade just ruins the experience in a different way for players like me.

True, you're not wrong for that. You're wrong for ignoring game features and coming to forums, whining about problems that could be easily solved by not ignoring said features. I have nothing against "self-found" players, just people like johnKeys who ignore obvious features and then come here to whine about how the game sucks.

Business model? Sell MTX. Sell supporter packs. Now who's going to buy more, a player who plays in his own closed space, or a player who wants to look good / show off to other players? Which archetype do you think is dominant in this game?
