I think a GGG response on Vaal Oversoul is due.

This isn't an XP loss QQ thread, this character is lvl 92, I'm used to 10% taking 10-30 hours on my lvl 97, I could get this back with 3-4 palaces on this character.

This is, though, a 'wtf is going on GGG?' thread.

I don't think I've ever heard devs comment on the Vaal Oversoul monster type, other than accept praise for the design. Praise that might be due if it worked as designed and wasn't the biggest fuck up I've ever known.

First question/s.

Why does Vaal Oversoul follow the character on client after he pops up under them?

I mean, we don't even see this monster walk/run normally.
Does his AI even allow him to walk/run on the server while in combat, because it doesn't utilise it?
The only time we see him walk/run in combat, is after he pops up, the player moves and the boss, on client only, follows the player. The boss on server is still stood where he popped up.

I've done a lot of mazes recently on this character, I'm getting a bit sick of running away from the boss who's chasing me, while I could be attacking, only to see him resync back to where he popped up. Meaning, I'm running from nothing and have wasted the time that I could be attacking and usually have killed him.

So, I try something.
I move away but then stop and start attacking.
The boss chases me, catches up to me, even does a smash right on me, but of course he is still stood where he popped on the server. I take no damage and the boss is soon dead.
I do this several times, every time the same. Server side chasing Vaal is not 'real'.

Then this happens http://www.twitch.tv/theanuhart/c/4506371

I move, Vaal chases, begins a slam animation and I get one shot before he is even half way through the animation. Even if I wanted to move, to be sure, I'm dead before he slams.

So, the second question/s.

How did he slam me when he doesn't follow on server and the client follow is not real?
How did I die, even without the above, BEFORE the slam?

And the real question, HOW THE FUCK can you still have this fight in game and be so absolutely broken?

Note, this was a blue map with only the mods pack size and exiles.
There was no haste mods.
Which brings me to another point/question.

How can GGG say they are improving game sync but this fight not only hasn't improved whatsoever, they even up the move speed mod in maps to 35%?

If a 1-shot boss cannot be avoided, if the boss position on client and server don't agree, if the 1-shot animation and damage don't agree, how in the hell is adding haste going to improve the situation?

I'd really like a GGG response to this long standing completely broken Vaal boss.
I don't expect one, I expect GGG to bury their heads, ignore how broken their game is and carry on adding more broken bosses and mechanics, to put them in areas with terrain that will aggravate sync (Kole), to add minions that can cause huge damage while not being near you client side (Dominus), to add more 1-shots that often don't sync in audio, telegraph, boss position or ground graphics (Vaal, Dominus, Kole). And then aggravate it all even more with increased haste map mods.

Please, for once, respond to the Vaal fight. It would look better than ignoring it as you have for over a year.

You even added 2 of these broken assed bosses in the Atziri instance.
Like wtf?
Do you honestly not know how broken it is?

One time I died to Vaal, said to my son in skype "I just died to nothing" Vaal then BEGAN a slam animation.
Casually casual.

There is nothing that prevents them from developing fights within the current prediction model limit's and alter them when the model becomes better equipped to handle original intended mechanics.

One-hit ko's, given the current model are poor design and give bad-player-experiences, this becomes worse when experienced in a hardcore-setting.

There is nothing wrong with power-full attacks imo's, but overkill in an unreliable system is wrong.

Simply put, an error that is not a player error should have the ability to be forgiving.

In the current state this is not the case, i think because of the lack of difficulty.(also because of the poor prediction model)

Scrotie's response came down to "fuck player experience GGG should not waste there time with making 2 fights" (one for how the prediction model currently operates and a redesign when it functions better)

Edit :

The thread where i was talking about this with scrotie if your interested, to provide some context.

(and obviously anu, i agree with you, from a hardcore setting PoV this design is even more brutal)

Why are you even complaing, you get the game for free,
I'm a savage, I'm a king
I fought deceivers
I conquered evil
Yeah, sadly this is what happens when you make your own eingine, it's not optimized along with the netcode, and you decide to make one-shot mechanics. It's like oil and water...they just don't mix well, and that's a shame.
Epic video. Holy Exile!

If someone deserves to be listened. If someone deserves a GGG answer it would be TheAnuhart! He played your game numerous hours. And gave feedback and is respected by the community.

That's awesome my man, I have no idea what you're talking about or its relevance to this thread, but I love your passion no less!
Something needs to be done about this sort of thing. It's laughably terrible.
I'm saying this since always... why do they design the game like it doesn't have these performance issues is beyond me.

I've had my share in those "telegraphed" one-shot mechanics, which would be excellent outside of this engine or whatever.

I see, we all should shut up 'cos game is free... Are you retarded or just pretend to be one?
I participated in few free/open source projects as developer and/or person who reports bugs/problems/suggestion and devs actually appreciate feedback about their product, what's bother users, what can be improved etc.

Haven't faced such ignorance yet, but probably you've accomplished nothing worth mentioning so maybe that's the reason you're acting that way.

Anyway goodluck with that attitude.
sorry to see you RIP Anu, but I'm sure this is only a small bump on the road to your inevitable destination - level 100.

Vaal Oversoul gets many praises, simply because he's the best-designed monster this game has.
he's also one of very few who actually have AI.

I think you are not complaining about Vaal himself, as much as you are complaining that your attempt at outsmarting desync failed this time.
you can't outsmart desync, because desync is unpredictable. you have absolutely no way of knowing what the f*k is going on server-side.

desync should be long gone from this game by now.
but I understand GGG have limited abilities, so it should at least be reduced to absolute minimal levels.
if a dev response is coming in this thread, I'd like it to be about what have they actually done so far - in over a year's development I've been playing - about desync.

Shadow: That was fun
