GGG does ban bots :D
That was a steal. Funny thing with this game, and many others, if you truly wanted to optimize your PoE experience, you would shut off all cores save 2, and boost the clock rates as high as your cooler and voltage as you feel is safe.

" I use the 980X myself. Great processors, I try to make as much use of it as I can though obviously gaming is not what they're built for. 16GB of RAM personally, it will be a long time before I need any more than that. +1 Shavs Project -----> /1075009

Yeah. Most games are optimized for one or two threads and no more than that, so higher than quad cores are really only useful for high amounts of multitasking or using software designed to take advantage multiple threads.
Fortunately, I don't need more power than my processor has. I could disable the hyperthreading to get a small performance gain actually, for most things. But it's not like I would be able to measure the difference with my naked eye anyway. In fact, I'm sure that a graphics card upgrade from my GTX 570 (which I paid 200 for it when it was 370) would be the first big upgrade that I'd need to do if I wanted better performance. Regardless, I did notice, before they mentioned that they need to optimize the way they generate text in the game, that if I closed the chat/trade channels I got near perfect frame rates, but it does drop when those have text constantly spamming on the screen. I look forward to the coding optimization for that. I'm sure that's half the reason why I've seen people say that this game has horrible frame rates, but they just didn't noticed it was the text. nice to read :)
CPU is not that important for POE (at least for one instance). My mid-range laptop with dualcore i5 has no trouble with it, often uses only 20%. You'll need massive graphics power and memory and harddisc-speed for loading times. Playing solo just works ok with my aged mobility radeon (like 30-60 fps) but a party with heavy effects / summons will drop my framerate to a slideshow, while CPU is still going easy. Dynamit,

Even with SLI 780s, in a mish mash of particle effects I can still drop to 40. Same in even D3, which surprised me.

I was DELIGHTED to read this, the tears.... the tears!

Grinning from ear to ear after reading the botter QQ quote.
Keep up the good work banning the botters GGG!
" Your cpu is not going easy, effects are done on the cpu but because the game only uses 2-3 threads it can't keep up and that's why you have low fps. OT: nice quote. Funny how idiots always finds stupid arguments to justify their crimes. "RMT good for the game" Yea, right. That must explain why hardcore has a better economy.
Just popping in to say I enjoyed reading the OP.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
