why this hate for the strong?

It's also a lot of frustration.

The gap is quite large. Think about the terrible economy (no matter how often or fresh a league is the economy turns to shit in about 2 weeks max). You have most items worth maybe a chaos. Then you have some worth at or almost an exalt. Then you have a couple worth 3-5 exalts. Then the next tier is around 20-30 exalts.

The grind seems endless and the balance seems to be around the latter economical regions. How do you succeed? By the rules it's grind - trade - group on equal terms. Grinding you get all the rares/magics for alts and drops. Trading you can pass items to those who need it. Grouping you can increase the chance for a good drop though you may get less overall or work in a group fashion with group wealth looking out for each other (more eyes to find the right gear).

In actuality it's grind < Trade < group < Flip < RMT.

If you want good items there are plenty of good rare items to mirror in standard league that don't break the game like shavroones and crown and old kaom and so on.

I barely have made 10 Ex with 2 80+ and an additional 3 50+ characters, much less a f'n mirror...

The fact that they nerf the heck out of OP armor/gear and then legacy those that have them pretty much makes those luckly players more Godlike than when everyone could get the nerfed version. Now they can charge 100s of Ex for the items or repeatedly charge for mirror services while those of us without continue to struggle to get even the slightest in Ex.

Oh yeah, we're supposed to use these Ex to craft items too! That'll happen given I need a minimum of 30 and more likely 50-100 for said 'good rares'.

A better solution to the nerfs would be to make more items available with similar abilities, stats and adjust mobs to compensate for the items powers. But hey, we can continue to watch POE bleed players...

All I know is I'm tired of watching my friends leave and getting increasingly frustrated with using the same gear I had 30 levels ago...

Off-Topic, Charan
Charan was one of my first contacts on this forum due to some CB asshole. As such, I have always made it a point to read a majority of his posts. To be honest, Charan, at times it can be hard to figure out where your thought process lies.

But to be honest, Charan has been just as critical of GGG as it has been in praise. More critical than praise since release, and understandably so. But even as his pendulum swings between praise and critique --- It's almost always worth the read, and never based on knee-jerk reaction, or without thorough acceptance of the fact that not everyone will agree with his PoV.

On Topic
As far as the actual subject of the topic goes, as others have stated, the "hate" (more often than not) isn't so much about the nerfing of OP items, or even hating on the owners of these items out of jealousy.

It is the fact that the game is balanced around these items, and the people in possession of them.

When one takes this route, you are negating a vast majority of the players who can not, will not, or simply have not yet obtained these items. Most are not available until very late game thanks to some of the gating put in place not long ago.

A late game that many will never make it to legitimately because the path to get there has been ramped up in difficulty so much that you can not get to the OP items without first having OP items.

The best example of this is the difficulty spike between Piety and Dominus. This is not nearly as bad now as it once was, but the difference is still obscenely noticeable for two battles so close in the story line.

I should not be able cakewalk Piety and then RIP ten minutes later when I enter the Dominus battle. There has to be a proper allotment of adjustment and tweaking time between the battles. Amusingly, I never bother with Merciless Dominus until after I have run some maps. The irony of course is that the mapping is the supposed End Game --- Meant to be AFTER the storyline battles.

I can not say much for late game maps. I have never done anything beyond a LV71 map. There are several reasons for this. But the biggest (other than that I am mainly a solo player without RMT gear, or mass amounts of MF) is that as a dedicated melee player, especially in the new Invasion league, it is nigh impossible to get to the point of mapping beyond that without one hell of a stroke of luck in regards to RNG.

My first run through Invasion was an attempt outside of my comfort zone. I left melee on the back burning and went with Searing Bond for faster leveling, and stuck with it. I put everything I had (currency-wise) into trying to get this char to late end game.

This journey ended when I lag walked into the face of a Bladeback Guardian and Xandro combo that crashed after a FPS drop from 60+ to 7-10 FPS while trying to exit.

Recent changes and upcoming "re-balancing" may make situations like this a bit more tolerable, but the point is that it should have never existed in the first place. No, I am not whining about a desync death. I could have played smarter. A bit more cautious. I could have avoided a likely desync situation. The complaint is of the balance issues with these two specific entities, especially pre-nerf Bladeback.

Without all of these OP items that every is hating on, a majority of the players would have met the same fate. And likely have.

End Game being balanced around End Game items is one thing. An entire progress line and random encounter system balanced around the same items are another.

I had a point when I started this. The point is still clear to me. Hopefully I didnt lose it for others wasting their time reading this. If I did --- I almost want to apologize for your wasted time. But you obviously have nothing better to do atm anyway, so...sucks to be you.

Point fully understood and agreed with on my part. It's something that's been stated for a long time.

Critical posts by charan?!

My history contains hundreds of entries that speak negatively about GGG and the game, including direction, loss of vision, failure to deal with certain quality of life issues from Closed Beta onward, utterly disgusting keystones such as Iron reflexes, the fact that the Scion never fucking shuts up and is completely against the high standard of characterisation of the Six real Exiles, the overtuning of Act 3 X, the ongoing and finally resolved weaknesses of Arc, the amazing ineptitude of Support regarding the maintenance of these boards, the lack of communication from Chris and other major devs regarding skill and item rebalancing, the complete and total embarrassment that was and is Soul Taker, the clutter of certain zones almost certainly leading to massive desync issues and the fact that the Map system has been violently underutilised in its reservation purely for 'high end' players, leaving your average gamers (2-4 hours a day, IF that) to have to run through the same three acts three times over the span of weeks if not months, although this was SLIGHTLY rectified with the introduction of corrupted side areas -- a pity there's no reason to go into them once you have all the Vaal skills you want.

so true - chris should read that part over and over and over again until he gets it.

Did you just call Charan an it?
I personally think GGG do excellent at creating content but personally they tend to spoil those that deserve banned while ignoring the masses.

Any betrayal you can see is trivial, What is truly frightening and much more lethal is the
betrayal you cannot see.

The OP gear annoys me because GGG will balance the game around it, making it, and everything else, less OP. OP is good in an ARPG. OP is fun.

This exactly.

I'm fine with OP builds. I dislike it when the game is rebalanced around them. Reminds me of that nerf to barrels and chests in D2 because of botters. Totally ruins a fun part of the game.

Then you'd probably be amused with how much chests have been nerfed since closed beta and are still being nerfed on occasion I might add.

Rather ironic how GGG and POE players scoffed at the breakables and Dank Cellar nerfs in D3,with a *we doubled it* chest loot statement and so forth ... yet here we are. =)

things like shavronne's that new mjolnir are all items that represent this so why all the hate to all these OP items? isnt this the whole point of the game?

yet GGG has already fallen for the trap of wanting to nerf stuff because of bla bla bla OMG op nerf that crap BS you get here on the forum's cant we just all be nice to one another aplaud and celebrate when someone gets that mighty drop and is in heaven for a good bit.

sigh all this hatred in a world that needs so much love.

Many of the overpowered items and skills would be just fine, if Path of Exile allocated them with higher character level requirements and if the game had areas with the right challenge level.

That said, a portion of the complaints are players that think their own playing style is hardcore and get miffed when they perceive that anyone else has it easier.
