I'm Unhappy I Put As Much Money As I Did In This Game

I ignored this thread for a long time due to its title. Saw it mentioned in the chat for my guild, and... let's just say I shouldn't judge a book by its cover. The OP is very well-written.
Each time new leagues pop up, I have a tendency to reroll characters from scratch (rather than taking on any passive tree resets — you might give them to me, I probably won't use them), and from time to time I race, although not much recently. As such, I play the early game a lot, and I have a lot of experience with content up through low maps, but I honestly don't have a lot of high-map experience (but I do have some). Still, there is one thing which OP seems to point towards, and which I notice more and more as I play this game... ...white monsters drop entirely too much stuff, and rares/uniques not nearly enough. I guess, then, that it should be no surprise that the primary (non-trading) progression methods do not involve tackling the hardest content, but instead truly farming — that is, harvesting vast numbers of idiotic, easily-defeated white monsters who put up about as much resistance as grain puts up against the scythe. The occasional rare may get in the way, but god forbid they actually drop good loot, because that might actually lead to a deviation from the usual autopilot farming tedium. And bosses? Just avoid them; they're not worth it. I really feel that whites dropping so much stuff is very key in the whole mix. The truth is that it's a relative thing, and although lootsplosions can be really cool on occasion (and are one of the nicest things about those occasional rogue exile battles), you don't need to rely on full-blown lootsplosions if the loot dropped by rares is significantly better in comparison to swaths of easy whites. This is why the amount of items dropped by white monsters is such a problem — it's something which the blue and magic monsters need to compete with. So here's a question I'd really like answered: Why do white monsters drop loot at all? Imagine if they didn't. You would be under absolutely zero item-progression onus to kill them; the only motivation to do so would be to make the process of killing blue and rare monsters easier (damn white monsters, always getting in the way). Naturally, in order to keep each zone farmable, there would have to be enough of these blue and rare monsters to make the zone worthwhile, so the rates of these would have to increase. And uniques? Rogue exile style lootsplosions. They're hard (or should be — at the very least, time-consuming), so you deserve it. In that kind of situation, instead of skipping the bosses to get the ability to farm more whites, I can see players skipping the whites to get to the ability to farm more bosses. Which is as it fucking should be. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted. " Sorry the title threw you off, I'm flattered to have this be talked about in guild chat however haha. Thanks for contributing to the discussion. Guide - How To Get Started in Path of Exile - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1297390

" Just watched Willy farm Vaal for 2 days in invasion making 10+ exalts last time I looked. Your feedback is well stated as far as complete sentences and not bashing goes... but so much of it is just severely limited perspective. " This is the most baffling part. The number of patches and tweaks based on player feedback is unmatched by any game I've ever played and is still on-going. The 1.1.1 patch released ~7 days after a "mini-expansion" would take $60 titles 2-4 months to put out. For a free-to-play game dev in their first title to promise and deliver bi-weekly content updates and 3 annual "major updates".. and dozens of patches in between is INSANE. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.. but to say you don't think GGG cares about feedback or is incapable of fixing issues is 100% absurd. No other way to put it. Absurd. If you think the money you put into PoE/GGG is poorly spent, I don't think you are properly putting it in perspective of every other dollar you spend. Your post has motivated me to SPEND more money on this game because you reminded how much GGG/PoE is the opposite of everything you seem to think it is. Out of the next $1000 I spend on food, entertainment, cell phone/cable/etc... I guarantee the portion of that put towards GGG is the best spent money HANDS DOWN. "Um, this would turn out... weird. It would probably end badly. A lot of people think messing with droprates (more orbs dropping) would lead to increased consumption at low levels. Um, no. How many Alchs you have has absolutely nothing to do with knowing where the most useful place to use them is — endgame. Since everyone already knows this, no one is going to start using Alchs on low-level items until there is either a fundamental change to the system, or someone forces them to use them earlier. This would force people to use them earlier... but likely not enough of them, and only until the economy is saturated with enough of them — after that point, instead of consuming the orbs, they'd simply switch hands. You'd probably end up with severe flooding at the top of the economic pyramid, with mirror-worthy power-creep worse than it was before. Also:
"You speak as if of a situation which is not fully implemented. Trash mobs are the de facto source of Exalted Orbs and Mirrors of Kalandra and wealth in general in this game; this doesn't make them any less trash mobs, because they are fucking easy to slaughter. We have your utopia already, and it's not quite as pleasant as you dream. We are gamblers, but gambling isn't rewarded; the safe bet is. " Beg your pardon, but 'barrelchested krait' is the number one source of orbs in this game, and the poor thing doesn't even fight back. I've been mentioning it, but playing through borderlands without dying is in some ways much more hardcore than PoE, even trash mobs can kill you there if you aren't paying attention, badass fire threshers and such are just the icing on the cake. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

"Ah, yes. But the barrels don't give XP... ...which is another thing in Charan's post I failed to note. The fact that white monsters are also the primary source for XP is another problem, essentially the same thing as the loot problem but applied to leveling. The XP you get from Piety alone in a Piety run should be a double-digit percentage of the total, assuming the fight with her is a double-digit percentage of the time elapsed for said run. " So ... GGG is choosing money over "what they think it best for the game" by not trying to content the 13547643246547654 casual players that want easy access to all the content ? Do you see the contradiction in there ? SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading. " Well, if you overlevel enough, whites will give you almost nothing too, but same goes for rares and bosses :) I'd like to see some more XP for bosses too, in other instanced MMOs out there you often get some experience for clearing the level or killing the boss, once the grind gets slow it's a very nice bonus.
