Bad loot - a response

It's like people don't understand probability or something.

Trading being better than going out and killing things to get it yourself is an inevitable consequence of the following three facts:

1. You can give items to people. (and they can give items back in return: hence, trade)

2. There are lots of people you can give items to.

3. You can find items that are better for other characters than they are for the one you're playing.

For those of you who dislike trading, which of these three points do you propose GGG remove in order to "fix" trading being more efficient than grinding?
I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out.
Heard its twisted dreamed inanity
In a whisper, in a shout.
In the babbling cacophony
The refrains are all the same:
"[permutations of humanity]
are unworthy of the name!"

None. I propose GGG make a trade system that wouldn't have still been considered outdated 10 years ago so that people can "trade" without having to go to different 3rd party websites and hang out online all day.

You've accurately described the current game play paradigm, but it is exactly that paradigm that people have fault with. Most people, I'll just go out and assume, do not want to play an ARPG as if it is an MMO... I assume that because otherwise they'd be playing an MMO (not to make this about a debate over what, exactly, an MMO is). Due to that assumption, most people, want to play without the *need* to trade.

Certainly, trading will always be more efficient then grinding. However, they can certainly make the grinding a bit less... grindy. They aren't mutually exclusive.

You don't "need" to trade. I got to low 80s with my 1st nemesis character completely self found.

Sure. A lot of people have. People hit 90's before maps were introduced just mindlessly grinding content. That isn't the point.

I'll rephrase - in order to progress in a timely manner and feel as though ones time isn't wasted on a slot-machine world that more often then not doesn't pay out, people trade. The people who trade progress much more efficiently and much more quickly then those who do not. This causes some angst.

Also, because people find that trading is SO much better, it is as if this innovative 'crafting' system GGG introduced doesn't even exist. So, that, to me, is a problem as well. Even if you feel that the current system is fine you have to admit that its odd that the majority of the player base doesn't utilize the crafting system but rather hoards orbs for trade - making it just like a gold based ARPG, making PoE just like any other ARPG, calling into question the legitimacy or the value of the very complex bartering economy we now have.

Put succinctly if GGG wants trading to be the best way of acquiring gear because they want to foster a robust economy, why make trading such a damn chore and create such an innovative crafting system?

I consider I got to 80 in a timely manner. These are all self found on this character:

Manage to onehit most mobs with one cast of EK and finish easy maps in 5 mins(48 innate movement).

Not amazing gear and haven't really updated lots of slots since 70s but currently 86 and doing quite good with a character based on self found.

@Temper I play solo/duo.

You're very lucky. Going mostly selffound, I never found any item even remotely as good as these - and I pick up every single rare and run with IIQ. Highest +Life I ever found was +20.

You're the outlier, not the norm.

(that said, you really don't need to trade that much - but the trading system is still completely screwed up and should be fixed)
