It's just a funny sentence. Being devoid of desires is like training to stop breathing.

Nature didn't give you control over breathing, in the same way, desires are out of your reach to control.

Imagine when i see a beautiful women walking over the streets, what is there to be denied?
I might find here beautiful, and desire here, but why exactly should this be a punishment?

I think you're confusing 'needs' and 'desires'.

Anyway, someone was misquoting the Tao, so all I am trying to do is correct it. The Way is allllllll about minimalizing and eliminating desire, as desire is the root of unhappiness in a person.

You can actually see evidence of this all over the forum.

"Drop rates need to be increased" - desire to have more things.

"Why is my skill getting nerfed when X is so OP!?" - desire to be better than someone else

"GGG, want more information about release!" - desire for pointless knowledge


I'm not entirely in the "all desire is bad" camp myself, as I think desire is a pretty strong motivator for change and progress in both humanity and society. Just saying, this is the way the Tao teaches you to look at things.

How would one create a magnificent tree, without spending time on the roots?
It's from the strength one can gather of the roots that a magnificent fruit/flower comes into being. If u ignore them, ore decide to let them pass without getting to know them, how will u understand the completion of these roots?

Within this sentence lie's a grand lesson for u to learn, if you can grasp its meaning and intend.

There is nothing to be confused about here. Needs dwell on the surface, desires flow under the surface. In terms of mastery one starts with needs and slowly identify's the underlying desires, in order to gain knowledge of his roots like u call them. However these are neither negative nor positive, they simply are. The inner being is not concerned with justice, for it knows no ego.
