Is begging for items against any rules?

As far as I know it's not but everyone turns into an angry dolt whenever they see you ask for something for free like it's the most outrageous thing they've ever seen before, making it seem like it's a crime or something.

I just wanted some jewelers and fusings to try and socket/link my soul mantle and searing touch and now I feel like I wanna jump off a bridge because asking in global for it resulting in multiple people harassing and insulting me and one person even said they reported me for spam and that i was gonna get banned.

There should be a warning message before you enter chat that says "warning: if you even think about asking for a scroll of wisdom, you will be beaten to death with words".
Just because the masses blindly and instantly react like the stimulus response robots they've been conditioned to be instead of employing thought does not mean the thing they are mad at is wrong.
(:
PK'ing on the bandit quest is also not against the rules, but if you do it, you are an asshole, and expect to be treated as such.

I understand you don't see a problem with begging, (speaking of which, can you give me $100, you spent 15x that on Eternal supporter, shouldn't be a big deal. No? Why not?)

In all seriousness, you've done this before, and gotten the same reaction in global and on the forum. Why would you think it would be different this time? If it makes you feel better, it happens to anyone who tries to beg for a items, you just didn't seem to learn from it the first time. If I'm not mistaken, you actually got a free pair of rainbowstrides out of that. The Two Ex value of rainbowstrides is more than 80% of the players in this game have ever had at one time. Sell them off and use what you get from them for currency. That's what everyone else has to do.

The whole point of an ARPG is to grind out the items. There is no "Congratulations You Win" at any point of the game. Is it that you think that the people in global are the same people who have multiple exalts and BiS items sitting in their stash? Because those people aren't in your global. The people in your global are people in the same boat as you. They have an item. They'd like to upgrade it. They are busy grinding out what they need to do that. Then you come in and you start asking for them to hand you their hard work for free. Why would they do that?

Wisdom scrolls and fusings are worlds apart. If you asked for a half stack of wisdoms, sure cool, np. But we are all link crazy and that one fuse could mean the difference between meh and godly. We should be more giving as a community but well we are but flawed humans.

Seeing someone get something for free that other people have to generally work for can enrage a great deal of people. I personally don't give a shit, but this is the logical reason for people getting mad.

I agree with both, however why is there a need for people to break rules (I.E. insulting/harassing other players) because someone else is asking for a few items?

If you want my honest opinion, Roboticon phrased it pretty well a couple posts up; it breaks the spirit of an APRG where the entire crux of the game is farming for items to improve your character/account(s).

I can't imagine any situation where I ask for "free fusings" in global chat and get a slurry of positive responses.

Keep in mind, I occasionally feel for the new, friendly guy, help him out to get him started - but I swear to christ 99% of the time he's a scammer.

To blame this on PoE is unfair, to the blame it on the interbutts in its entirety, however, is generally pretty fair.

Scammers come in many shapes and sizes

Well you're the guy that was begging for rainbow strides before right?

It's just sort of eh to beg for stuff, especially when it's not something cheap.

I have given away stacks of portal scrolls, wisdom scrolls, glassblowers baubles and other shit but I wouldn't give fusings to some random just begging for it.

Gathering a stack of fusings doesn't take that many hours but instead you beg for which just feels lazy and I think that's why people get upset with it.

I was gonna keep my peace, but I think I have something to add to this conversation.

I read your posts, and, generally, you seem okay. However, whenever you put your paw out for something free from other people, it makes me like you less. It strips away your dignity, and you seem kinda shifty, mebbe greedy. I'm not saying you are those things, but impressions like that (especially repeated) can be lasting ones.

Put this behind you, let those old threads sink to the bottom of the board, and don't be that person. Sure, there's nothing inherently wrong with it, but it will color people's opinion of you, and not in a good way. ='[.]'=
