Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

The problem with saying "we have a lot of really cool new content coming very soon, but we won't tell you what it is" is that you are creating an unrealistic image in peoples minds. Everyone has their own view of what this game would be like 'perfected' and naturally when you claim there will be majour improvements while saying absolutely nothing about what they are, people will assume that things will move towards their ideal version of the game. Since you obviously aren't santa clause and you aren't delivering a personalized gift-wrapped experience to each player, everyone is bound to be disappointed in some way, small or large. While the improvements may be some of what most people are hoping for, they won't be everything that even a few people wanted.
Saying nothing creates false expectations. You may believe that the players like surprises, hell, even the players may believe that they like surprises, but the fact of the matter is that false, over-inflated expectations only end up creating disappointment. |

The advantage a pessimist has over an optimist is that the pessimist is never disappointed. ='[.]'=

" hey, understand your anger. can't say it's the first time a game dev has ever had a change of plans with adding content, alas it's very common but i guess that's just the way game development usually is. so i think it's ok to let it slide. agree, that it would have been helpful if they stated earlier that they were changing their focus onto something other than weekly new skill gems. but we kinda figured that out anyway. looks like they've come out to say it finally :) | |
" I'm not even remotely angry lol... I am just pointing out the ill logic they said 1 a week but it was such a short time that it should not even be made to such a statement.... and sorry if it will look like i'm insulting them, but if they cannot plan skill gems more then 3 weeks ahead of time then what credibility do they have with their bold statements of 10 acts over 10 years now? " This is the sort of thing I believe OP was talking about. When one of you takes the time to make a post like this, it makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. There are sooo many threads about issues that have gone on for over 100 pages, and never does a Dev step in and say "We are having internal discussions regarding this." That's a quick easy answer, doesn't really tell us much, but it at least tells the masses you are paying attention. The end game/mapping in particular. So many people seem to quit over this issue, and I can't really blame them. The amount of RNG involved is so frustrating. Eventually I just rolled another character, but so many just walk away. If a dev would step into a thread like that and say "There will be changes with release" I think you'd get a lot more player retention, or at least people who weren't so fed up when they left that they would actually come back. Edit: And while I can't imagine a worse way to phrase what the one guy said earlier, it is a little strange to have to go to Reddit to get answers instead of this forum. I understand this place can be a completely cesspool at times, but so can reddit. " Understood that partnerships are good, necessary for business, and in the end there will always be people that are not happy with your CHOICE of partners. Does anyone remember the flack that EA copped when they first announced in-game ad placement in Battlefield and Need for Speed games? - and that was years ago. I swear the Internet was close to melting down over that, and uproars are still common when a gaming company first does it today. Take games with modern-day-earth settings... some find the in-game ad placement jarring EVEN WHEN the content could be deemed appropriate to the game world. (a billboard in a modern shooter for example) I think the reason many found this method of promotion so offensive here should be clear; circa-2013 Video-gaming companies cannot/do not exist in Wraeclast, and therefore the visible branding compromises the authenticity of the game world massively, at least in my opinion. Why not put the logo(s) of current and future partners on the login screen, or the first loading screen, or even create a new compulsory screen that has to be viewed as the final step? Even those of us with SSDs are still forced to wait a few seconds while the game loads. I'm sure many remember the 5 billionty AD screens you had to click through to get into UT3, until you discovered how to disable them in the the .ini files =) Perhaps that wasn't good enough for Razer, don't know, and don't need to know. Just please in future, keep this sort of stuff OUT of the actual gaming world. Last edited by DijiGo#2281 on Sep 4, 2013, 2:01:22 AM
