Having aura's running (and their buffs/effects) while not actually being affected by the gear makes no sense.

The saddest thing about this bug "fix" is that it limits the possibilities of builds rather than making more possibilities. This patch will effectively make my build nonviable, and I assume it will make many other builds nonviable as well. In an attempt to stop bug abuse they've nerfed life and melee even more so since the potential builds that are actually worth using (damage wise and defense wise) are reduced. I thought that the idea of the skill tree was having lots of builds being possible, rather than having a couple that are the only ones worth using (such as low life or CI).

I'll have to reroll or respec to something viable after the patch. Oh well.

why would it make no sense? In games there is no logic anyway, but just assuming there would be:
If you use an aura gem to cast an aura, all what is therefore required lies in the gem. Once the spell is cast the aura forms. Who says you have to carry the "manual" all the time while using the aura? Anyway you could argue both ways..
The point is this limits builds. Carrying auras with yourself is lame. It's like mandatory reserved spots for any character, which GGG wanted to avoid as far as I know.

If this exploit was the only reason they work in the first place I say good riddance.

Especially 'cause they won't stay dead, when the game gets some real rebalancing they will work again. Giving players the ability of running all auras of any interest to them is essentially the same thing as giving us 800 passive points to cover any part of passive tree that has even a tiny bit to offer us, it removes choice. And, last I checked, this game advertises possibilites, not certainties (might be said this trope got played too straight with just a hint too much RNG layers involved).

And, might be just me but I can't really see how could it be intentional. More likely, game entered a final pre-launch phase where everything gets crammed in and checked for all possible interactions and consequences, some of those will be pruned, that's the point of beta.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
