Consistently had this error trying to enter the Mud Flats (don't have the error text, sorry). Fixed it by using the installer's Repair function, then booted up the client to re-download damaged files. Works like a charm.

like a previous poster mentioned have u guys tried nosound?
right click the shortcut to the game, go to properties, and in the target section, change it to "C:\Program Files\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile\Client.exe" --nosound |
