Yes. And given that fact, people still avoided playing in groups! What does that tell you?
That something like a karma system is needed to make the SA system less reliant on blind decisions and trusting strangers. Not necessarily that karma system; just some kind of additional, information-providing mechanic.
Not that GGG needs to give up on its principles.
Oh, and it wasn't that many people. Most everyone still partied for the bonuses, but raged when they'd get their stuff "stolen." A few of these ragers started very popular QQ threads.
It tells me that actually enjoying the game is far more important for people than you give it credit for.
If the point of forcing FFA/SA is so that people can avoid it, isn't it rather pointless?

That's why it's not small. Right now a member of a six-man group enjoys 3.5 times the non-map loot per map vs solo (after splitting loot, also splitting map cost), equal maps per map, and 71% faster killspeed/XP gain (but not movement speed). Right now the only drawback is portal consumption.
The bottom line for me is that it takes me WAY too long to analyze the drops so I pick up nothing when I am grouped. The looting ratio I "enjoy" in a group is therefore 0% of what I get solo. In D2 you could simply scoop up uniques and ignore everything else and life was fine. In this game there are way too many attributes to consider for me to quickly decide what I want to pick up and what I can ignore.
I don't trade. I don't group. My comments reflect that.

there are no options anymore
Before loot options were introduced, there was no options: only timed-sanctioned-ffa
Now there are true options.
Your statement implies that there were options before, but there werent.
your logical fallacy

as time goes on more and more people will realize they are spending effort playing a harder game for no reason, no advantage, and often less loot then those who choose to not compete.
you enjoy it, you play it. you don't enjoy it, you don't play it.
its not rocket science, it's very easy and simple.

So again it simply comes down to the fact that you want to play with people that have slower connections, slower reaction times, or in general don't care for the loot competition. If you have to compete against players that are fast and competent you want no part of it. This is EXACTLY why people support PA as an option. People who want the competition can enjoy HEALTHY competition rather than just preying on noobies, squishies, and people with poor latency. Meanwhile, people that want to relax and have a good time smashing monsters with friends can do so without being forced into 'loot competition'.
Exactly.

You can't be serious. They are color-coded for your convenience; you just click on the orange, yellow, and gold text. It's not rocket science.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

However getting it through your head that people don't want to play the loot competition mini-game because it is not fun and adds nothing to their game play experience apparently is rocket science... (or something else that you fail miserably at)

I don't think it's right to have a carebear, everyone automatically cooperates option. That's dumbing down the game's soul for the sake of appeasement, which is the storyline equivalent of QQ concession.
Does that make me a hater? Probably, but irrelevant. I don't care two shits about playing Standard myself, yet I'm strongly against removing or reducing the death penalty there. Does that make me a crazy hater? No. It makes me a sane hater, because the game should not have a goddamn easy button.
Right on man!
The "everyone automatically cooperates option" is the real issue with PA for me. I like to play cooperatively and work with people but I resent being artificially restricted - people I know are like "we don’t want to fight over loot so let’s set it to perm allocation" - I do not want to fight over loot either, but now I don’t have a choice if I want to play with them.
I used to feel like I had something to offer people with my loyalty, now they can force it on anyone.
